14th Annual Bengal 5K Run and Fun Walk
Time to lace your sneakers and limber up! The Buffalo State Alumni Association hosts the 14th annual Bengal 5K Run and Fun Walk, on Saturday, March 19, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sports Arena.
This year, the Bengal 5K includes a new race route—taking participants through the heart of the Elmwood Village before returning back to the Sports Arena for a family-friendly post-race party and awards presentation. View race map (PDF).
"We wanted to provide the community with a chance to participate in the long-standing tradition of the 5K race," said Landrum Beard, assistant director of alumni affairs. "Working with the Elmwood Village Association on ways to include the community was key in redesigning the race course."
George Richert, ’90, news reporter at WIVB-TV, will shoot the starting gun at 9:30 a.m.
The race includes chip timing by Score This, a registration gift for the first 500 participants, and exciting door prizes during the post-race Bengal Brunch.
Race net proceeds benefit the Alumni Association’s Legacy Scholarship fund and the Armed Services Scholarship Fund. Legacy Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students who are the children or grandchildren of Buffalo State graduates. The Armed Services Scholarship provides funding for student veterans at Buffalo State.
Registration
Those wishing to participate are encouraged to register online in advance. Runners and walkers can also register the day of the event starting at 8:00 a.m. in the Sports Arena.
The student registration fee is $20 per participant. General registration is $25 (advance, before March 16) and $30 (day of) per person. Group discounts are available for students, faculty, staff, or alumni who register as teams (maximum of 10 per team). Early registration is encouraged to avoid lines.
