2003 Burchfield-Penney Auction and Gala

The Burchfield-Penney Art Center's annual auction and gala will take place on September 12, 2003 in the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans Music Hall. The chairpersons for this year’s event are Jim and Joy Brandys with co-chairs Gary and Willow Brost; Victor Shanchuk, Jr., Debbie Beilfuss and William and Charlene Wilson.

Art will the highlight of the evening during the live and silent auctions. A painting by Maestro JoAnn Falletta, music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, which was created under the guidance of watercolor artist Rita Argen Auerbach, will be part of the live auction.

“The Burchfield-Penney relies on the generosity of the Western New York community and the artists of Western New York to provide the region with the very best programs and exhibitions possible,” said Ted Pietrzak, executive director of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center. “Our annual gala and auction is not only a fundraising opportunity but is also an opportunity to celebrate our successes and to have some fun!”

In addition to the watercolor by Maestro Falletta, guests can also bid on artworks from artists Milton Rogovin, Joe Piccillo, Carol Townsend, Bruce Adams, Ani Hoover, Duayne Hatchett and Catherine Parker. The silent auction will feature works by artists AJ Fries, G. Peter Jemison, Victor Shanchuk Jr., Bill Wilson, Jill Morlock, Neil Tetkowski, Gay Wind Campbell, Elisabeth Samuels, Brian Porter, Wendy Werner, Alma Slotkins, Nancy Jewett, Jackie Felix, Greg Link, Rita Argen Auerbach, Nancy Belfer, Brett Coppins, Robert Freeland, Irwin Franco, Rob Lynch, Joseph Orffeo, Sylvia L. Rosen, Catherine Linder Spencer, Christy Zucarelli, Matt SaGurney, Donna H. Irwin, Robert Blair and more. Cash Cunningham will act as guest auctioneer.

The theme of the event is Carnaval of the Arts and will feature the tastes, sights and sounds of Brazil, including a live performance of Capoeira, a traditional Brazilian performance and a spectacular samba, led by Buffalo's Folkloric Productions.
