Alexander Karatayev, director of the Great Lakes Center, recently coauthored two papers on invasive species. "Limnoperna fortunei vs. Dreissena polymorpha: Population densities and benthic community impacts of two invasive freshwater bivalves" appeared in the Journal of Shellfish Research 29(4): 975-985. "Differences in growth and survivorship of zebra and quagga mussels: size matters" appeared in Hydrobiologia, published online.

Lyubov Burlakova, research scientist, and Alexander Karatayev, director, both with the Great Lakes Center, recently published, with coauthors, two peer-reviewed articles on the conservation of freshwater mollusks. "Endemic species: contribution to community uniqueness, effect of habitat alteration, and conservation priorities" appeared in Biological Conservation 144: 155-165. "Biogeography and conservation of freshwater mussels (Bivalvia: Unionidae) in Texas: Patterns of diversity and threats" was published online on March 16.
