Actors, Dancers, Musicians Unleash Talents in 'Footloose'

The vibrant musical Footloose, which first appeared as a major motion picture of the same name, features a teenager who bucks a local dancing ban and ends up changing a conservative farming community.

Buffalo State’s Casting Hall Productions will present this heartfelt story in Upton Hall's Warren Enters Theatre beginning on Thursday, November 13, at 8:00 p.m. with subsequent performances November 14–15 and November 20–22 at 8:00 p.m. and November 15 and 22 at 2:00 p.m.

The college’s annual Andy Anselmo musical is directed by Carlos Jones, associate professor and chair of theater. More than 50 students and a couple of alumni are involved in the production as actors, musicians, dancers, and crew members.

"We chose Footloose as a musical that both highlights our campus talent and is a big draw for the public," Jones said. He said the 1998 stage version is very similar to the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. "It has a lot of joy to it and positive feelings—a story of rebellious kids who just want to dance."

Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for seniors, other students, Buffalo State faculty, staff, and alumni; and $6 for Buffalo State students. Tickets may be purchased online, through the Rockwell Hall box office or by phone (716) 878-3005.
