African Visions Speaker Series

The Modern and Classical Languages Department is hosting a speaker series during the month of April.

“Africa Today: African Visions at Buffalo State,” begins Thursday, April 14, with a lecture from Jean Gounard, director, International Student Affairs. Gounard will speak on “The French Language and Africa in the Twenty-First Century,” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210.

Dominic Thomas, professor and chair of the UCLA Department of French and Francophone Studies, will discuss “African Immigration In/Into France Today,” Thursday, April 21, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center E2.

Beth Buggenhagen, assistant professor of anthropology at Indiana University, Bloomington, will speak on “Muslim Visual Cultures and the Image Economy in Global Senegal,” Thursday, April 28, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center E2.

The speaker series is sponsored by the Margaret Bacon Visual Arts Fund, the Equity and Diversity Office, the Modern and Classical Languages Department, and the French Club at Buffalo State College in association with the American Association of Teachers of French.

All sessions are free and open to the public.
