Alumnus Brings One-Man Show to Buffalo

Peter Michael Marino, '87, brings his new one-man comedy show, Late with Lance!, to Buffalo this week for a pair of performances: Friday, December 4, at 8:00 p.m. on campus in the Donald Savage Theater and Communication Building’s Flexible Theatre; and Sunday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. at Allen Street Hardware, 245 Allen Street. The events are “pay-what-you-can” and no reservations are required.

In his new production, Marino, who presented his critically hailed show Desperately Seeking the Exit at Buffalo State in 2013, portrays Lance, a delusional cruise ship entertainer and talk-show host obsessed with celebrity, fame, and musical theater.

A spoof on show business and chat shows, Late with Lance! successfully toured London and Edinburgh and has enjoyed an extended run in New York City.

"I like doing little 'pop up' shows," Marino told Anthony Chase, assistant dean of arts and humanities, in Artvoice. "At these performances I can develop the piece further. I see how it works as a road show, then I do it in New York City…The show I’ll be doing in Buffalo is the version I did in Edinburgh with Liza and Hugh Jackman as the guests. In my next version, Lance is waiting for Cher and Andrew Lloyd Webber!”

Marino created and starred in the award-winning productions All About Me! and More About Me!, which played the cabaret circuit in the mid-1990s, is the co-creator of SOLOCOM, which provides solo artists with a platform to generate brand new comic material.
