ANNUAL CONVOCATION PAYS TRIBUTE TO EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM HONORS STUDENTS

Francisco Guzman, supervisor of building construction for the City of Buffalo Department of Public Works and a 1990 graduate of the program, delivered the keynote address at Buffalo State College's Educational Opportunity Program Honors Convocation held May 3, 2001, in Rockwell Hall Auditorium.

The annual convocation celebrates the programs 34th year at Buffalo State College and honors the outstanding academic achievement of more than 300 of its students who have maintained an average of 3.0 or better for the spring or fall 2000 semester, or who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater for the fall 2001 semester.

Guzman, who earned a bachelor of science in design from Buffalo State, also holds a master's degree in architecture from the University at Buffalo.

  • Richard G.D. Winston Caribbean Student Scholarship: Yelida Guzman, of Bronx, N.Y.

  • EOP Distinguished Alumnus Award: David E. Basey, Jersey City, N.J.

  • Martha Pierce Student Recognition Award: Eric Maldonado, of Buffalo

  • Annie Joe Memorial Scholarship: Michelle S. Wojnowicz, of Orchard Park

  • Advocacy Award: Juan Luciano, of Buffalo

  • Alumni Award: Teresa J. Columbus, of Kenmore; and Sharon M. Cramer, of North Tonawanda

  • Arthur O. Eve Distinguished Student Achievement Award: Kevin L. Smith, of Buffalo
