The Buffalo State Alumni Association is honoring all alumni, students, faculty, emeriti, and staff members who have served in the United States or Allied military services during the annual Armed Services Reunion, Saturday, November 12, on campus.
The veterans’ ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Veterans' Memorial in the original quad, just outside of Bacon Hall, followed by a processional to the Campbell Student Union for a luncheon in the Assembly Hall.
Jennifer Heisey, director of alumni affairs, will serve as master of ceremonies, and she will introduce the speakers, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Gerber and Col. Mark P. Murphy, vice commander of the 914th Airlift Wing, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Attendees will also get to hear about the services available to Buffalo State veterans and partake in a special remembrance for fallen heroes. Uniforms are optional.
Buffalo State enrolled 1,308 veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and military dependents this fall. This represents an increase of 384 students with military ties from last spring.
“One goal for the reunion is to secure the endowments of the Military Services Scholarship that is provided to students who currently serve or have prior service in any branch of the United States military,” said Landrum Beard, assistant director of alumni affairs. Other goals include:
- To have alumni veterans stay in contact with the college and build a relationship with students who are currently serving in the military.
- To assist students who served in the military in transitioning back to life on campus.
- To raise the awareness of the needs of active-duty students or veterans.
- To have students reap the benefits of the G.I. bill.
Buffalo State alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community guests are welcome. The cost to attend is $15 for Buffalo State students and $25 for everyone else. Register online. Donations to the Buffalo State Military Services Scholarship can be processed online at www.buffalostate.edu/makeagift.
