Art and Design Professor Kicks Off Fall 'Artists on the Road' Series

Harriet Blitzer, professor of art and design, will present the talk “An Earthly Paradise–50 Years in the Eastern Mediterranean,” on Thursday, October 18, at 12:15 p.m. in Upton Hall 230. This is the first in the fall 2018 session of “Artists on the Road: Travel As Source of Inspiration.” It is free and open to the public.

Blitzer studied art history and archaeology at Brooklyn College and the University of Chicago and received her doctorate in classical archaeology at Indiana University. She teaches ancient and medieval art history and archaeology at Buffalo State. Blitzer served a Fulbright fellowship in Athens, Greece, in 2002.

Her field experience includes archaeological excavations and surveys in Greece, Turkey, the former Yugoslavia, and Idaho and New York. She has published on Minoan implements and industries, late Ottoman agriculture and subsistence, Bronze Age chipped stone industries, Aegean storage jar production and trade, pastoral life in the mountains of Crete, late Ottoman commodity trade, and olive cultivation in the Aegean Bronze Age.
