Banach, Maher Capture Softball All-Region Honors

Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) and Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) represented Buffalo State on the Lousiville Slugger/NFCA Division III Northeast All-Region Softball Teams. Banach was selected to the Second Team, and Maher was named Third Team.

Banach, a junior health and wellness major, has earned All-Region status three-straight years. She played all 43 games at third base this season and finished as the Bengals' leading hitter with a .364 batting average. She also led the team with 15 doubles, the second highest single-season total in school history. Banach added three homeruns and 31 RBIs.

Maher, a junior majoring in criminal justice, was recognized for the first time. The leftfielder began the season at on a torrid pace and finished the year with a .360 batting average. Maher added 10 doubles, three triples, a homerun and 28 RBIs in just 32 games before her season came to an end with a knee injury. In her two previous seasons, she hit a combined .254 with 10 extra base hits and 15 RBIs.

Buffalo State finished the season 28-15 overall and advanced to the SUNYAC Championship game, before falling 3-1 to Cortland.
