Becky Powell Joins Burchfield-Penney as Director of Development

The Burchfield-Penney Art Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Becky Powell as director of development for the museum. In this position, Ms. Powell will be responsible for all fundraising activities including membership, corporate and private support, foundation relations and special events.

“As the Burchfield-Penney Art Center prepares to move into its new museum building this fall, the museum is very pleased to welcome Becky Powell,” said Ted Pietrzak, director of the Burchfield-Penney. “Becky’s expertise in the area of development is extensive, and we look forward to her bringing her proven track record of success to the museum.”

Ms. Powell comes to the Burchfield-Penney after seven years as director of development and general counsel for the SPCA where her responsibilities included developing, overseeing and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of unrestricted and restricted gifts to the annual fund, the endowment fund, and for capital projects. Before joining the SPCA, Ms. Powell raised funds for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, World Monuments Fund, and the Museum of Modern Art. She earned a BA in art history from Georgia State University and a law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The new 84,000 square foot Burchfield-Penney, designed by Gwathmey Siegel and Associates Architects, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. The two-story building will be the Burchfield-Penney’s first free-standing home and have a major presence on Elmwood Avenue in the heart of Buffalo’s Museum District.

The Burchfield-Penney Art Center is accredited by the American Association of Museums and is supported in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, and Erie County.
