WOMEN'S HOCKEY (5-13-2/3-5-2) - Buffalo State Has Good Conference Weekend
Buffalo State traveled to Neumann College this weekend for a pair of ECAC West games against the Knights.
Saturday afternoon Buffalo State defeated the Neumann Knights by a score of 2-0. At 12:03 of the first period, Maddy Loftus (Parsippany, NJ/Pittsburgh Firebirds) scored the eventual game winner on assists from Jennifer Downey (Freeville/Ithaca Stars) and Kasey Cornwall (Lapeer, MI/Birmingham Rangers). Buffalo State the held the 1-0 lead until the 19:17 mark of the third period, when Kim Costanzo (Cheektowaga/Buffalo Bisons) netted her third of the season on a pass from Cornwall.
Sunday, the Bengals skated to a 2-2 tie with the Knights. Loftus scored both goals for the Bengals, and Mary Keddie (Willamsville/Buffalo Bisons) made 58 saves in the tie.
Buffalo State is now 5-13-2 overall and 3-5-2 in ECAC West play.

Buffalo State will host an exhibition game against the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before hitting the road to play Cortland in a pair of ECAC West games this weekend.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (12-7, 7-3) Bengals Slip Past Moss' Former Team
Tuesday night marked a homecoming for Buffalo State first-year head coach Jerome Moss, as he returned to Fredonia as a visitor for the first time. Moss, who spent two years as a player and eight seasons as an assistant coach at Fredonia, led the Bengals past his alma mater, 61-56.
The Blue Devils opened the game on a 13-2 run, but the Bengals battled back and chipped away at the lead to enter the intermission trailing just 28-26. Buffalo State used a 12-5 run of its own late in the second half to finally get on top to stay. Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) paced the Bengals with her sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) notched 14 points, and Dionne Turnage (Buffalo/Traditional) added 11.
Buffalo State is now 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the middle of the SUNYAC.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (14-4, 9-1) - Bengals Win Seventh Straight
Buffalo State extended it winning-streak to seven games with a 68-60 win over Fredonia on Tuesday night.
The Bengals traveled south on I-90 for its only game of the week, and emerged with an eight-point victory. Fredonia hit a jumper to open the game just eight seconds in, but Buffalo State answered with a three-pointer on the next possession and never trailed again. The Bengals led by as many as 14 points in the second half as they used a 21-7 run to ice the Blue Devils. Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) led the Bengals once again with 18 points, and he matched a school record with seven steals. Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) tallied 13 points and added nine rebounds, and Justin Konst (Williamsville/Williamsville East) added 10 points.
Buffalo State improved to 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the SUNYAC.

TRACK & FIELD - Team Competes at Syracuse Invitational
Sunday the Buffalo State indoor track team traveled to Syracuse to compete in the Syracuse Invitational.
On the men's side, Alton West (Oxon Hill, MD/Patuxent) placed third overall in the long jump, with a new season best of 6.62 meters, and Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) finished seventh in the 200-meter run with a season best time of 23.09. Matt Kubiak (Lakeview/Frontier) also ran a season best time of 2:38.23 in the 1,000-meters finishing in ninth place overall.
For the women, Linda Williams (Rochester/Edison Tech) broke her school record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.51, and she also placed 4th in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.77. Celestine Coney (Lyons/Lyons) also set a season best in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82, good for third place overall.

Buffalo State will gear up this week for the SUNYAC Championships to be held February 22 at Hobart College.
MEN'S HOCKEY (5-16-1/2-9) - Bengals Playoff Hopes on Thin Ice
Buffalo State hosted Brockport and Geneseo in a pair of critical conference games, but came up a goal short on consecutive nights to all by dash its hopes of a return trip to the SUNYAC playoffs.
On Friday night, Brockport outlasted Buffalo State 7-6 in overtime. Brockport opened up a 3-0 lead 2:00 into the second frame, before the Bengals rallied with three goals in 4:24 to knot the score at 3-3. Another Bengals lapse, however, found the home team trailing 6-4 midway through the third period, before mounting another comeback and eventually tying the score with just 1:59 to play in regulation. Buffalo State peppered the Brockport goaltender with six shots in the overtime period, but the Golden Eagles found the back of the net on their first shot of the extra period 2:54 in, while shorthanded. Buffalo State received all of its scoring from one line, as freshman Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Capital Centre) led the Bengals offense posting a career-night, scoring three goals and added two assists. Joe Uranik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) added a pair of goals, and the third linemate Mark Yoder (Ft. Wayne, IN/Grand Rapids) chipped in a goal and an assist. Buffalo State outshot Brockport 44-26.
Buffalo State played hard again on Saturday against Geneseo, but again never led, and eventually fell by a 4-3 margin. Geneseo took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Bengals tied it at 1-1 just 51 seconds into the second stanza. The teams traded goals later in the period, and stayed locked in a 2-2 tie until 2:27 remaining in the contest when Geneseo finally pulled ahead for good. The Knights added an empty-netter before Ricardo Hernandez (Eagle River, AK/Ventura) lit the lamp with just 16 seconds to play. Urbanik also tallied a goal and an assist, and Morgan McElman (Bayside, NB/Elmira) had a goal and two assists. Steve Thering (Fairport/SUNY-Morrisville) was strong between the pipes, making 26 saves.

Buffalo State will head to the "North Country" this weekend as it will face Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday.
More Records for Urbanik?
Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo), who already held the school records for assists and points in a career, eclipsed two more career bests against Geneseo. Urbanik became the Bengals all-time leading goal-scorer with 60 career tallies, and also moved into first place on the Bengals all-time leading penalty minutes list with 191.
SWIMMING & DIVING - Buffalo State Swims Two Meets This Week
Buffalo State was off from competition this past week as the men's and women's teams were tapering in preparation for this week's SUNYAC Championships. The championship meet will run from Wednesday through Saturday at ECC's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in downtown Buffalo.
