MEN'S BASKETBALL (10-3/6-1) - Bengals Streak Reaches Seven
Buffalo State extended it winning streak to seven games, sweeping a difficult weekend road trip to New Paltz and Oneonta.
On Friday, the Bengals jumped out to a 43-20 lead over New Paltz by halftime, and never looked back on route to a 78-49 victory. Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) led thirteen Buffalo State players who scored with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Shawn Haseley (Grand Island/Grand Island) scored nine points, and Pat Adams (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls), Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) and Justin Konst (Williamsville/Williamsville East) all chipped in eight. Buffalo State outrebounded the Hawks 39-26 and forced 18 New Paltz turnovers.
The Bengals visited Oneonta on Saturday, to meet a much more formidable foe. The teams battled to a 29-29 score at halftime. Buffalo State dominated the boards once again by a 54-40 margin, however, and the Bengals emerged with a 61-60 win. Adams led the way for Buffalo State at both ends of the floor. He scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Haseley added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Davis scored eight points and grabbed six boards. Willie Sanders (Rochester/Aquinas) added six points and eight rebounds.
Buffalo State improved to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play, as they hold the second spot in the SUNYAC behind unbeaten Brockport.
Who's Next?
Buffalo State will host rival Brockport in a highly anticipated match-up on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles enter the contest 15-0 and 6-0 in conference play, and were ranked fifth in the nation according to the latest Division III poll. The Bengals will remain at home this weekend, when they host Potsdam on Friday at 8 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Buffalo State is currently on a seven-game winning streak. The streak is the Bengals longest since winning nine in a row in 1996-97. That string ended in the second round of the NCAA Regionals.
Dominating the Paint?
Buffalo State in winning the battles in the paint. The Bengals are outrebounding their opponents by an average of 40.8-35.2. Pat Adams (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls) leads the way, averaging 10.2 boards-per-game. For his two-year career, Adams has exactly 300 rebounds.
Nearing a Milestone?
Senior Shawn Haseley (Grand Island/Grand Island) is closing in on 500 career points. The 6'6" forward has 488 career points, and will look to reach the milestone on Tuesday against Brockport.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (12-3/6-1) - Oneonta Finds Chink in Bengals Armor
Buffalo State made easy work of New Paltz on Friday night, before suffering its first conference loss of the 2001-02 season at Oneonta on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo State easily earned its fourth win in a row on Friday, defeating New Paltz 69-47. Seniors Chrissy Milleville (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) and Monica Polka (Youngstown/Lewiston Porter) led a balanced Bengals attack with 11 points apiece as 11 Bengals found the score sheet. Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) added 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds in the win. Monique Hanks
(Liverpool/Liverpool) chipped in eight points and Cora Humphreys (New York/Grace H. Dodge) scored seven.
The road trip continued into Oneonta on Satuit. Buffalo State regrouped at half time, and actually outscored Oneonta 29-25 in the final 20 minutes, but the damage had been done and the Bengals picked up their first SUNYAC blemish with a 62-35 defeat. Milleville scored 12 points to lead Buffalo State.
Buffalo State is now 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC joining Brockport and Cortland atop the SUNYAC with one loss.

Buffalo State will play its biggest game of the season this Tuesday, when it hosts Brockport for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Bengals will remain home this weekend when conference foes Potsdam and Plattsburgh come to town. Buffalo State will meet Potsdam at 6 p.m. on Friday, and Plattsburgh at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Pounding the Boards?
Third-year senior Monica Polka (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) moved into fifth place on Buffalo State's career rebounding list with 517 career boards. She trails Renne Witt by 60 rebounds for the fourth spot.
Block Party?
Despite averaging just over 11 minutes-per-game, freshman Ericka Miner (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) is leading the Bengals with 16 blocked shots this season.
MEN'S HOCKEY (9-8/4-3) - Valiants Take Two from Buffalo State
Buffalo State hosted Manhattanville for a pair of games this weekend, dropping both, 5-4 and 4-2.
On Friday, the Bengals were outplayed in every facet of the game in the first 20 minutes, as Manhattanville outshot Buffalo State 12-3 and more importantly, outscored the home team 3-1. Buffalo State submitted a better, second period, but fell into a deeper hole, and the Valiants extended their lead to 4-1. The Bengals finally found their skating legs in the final stanza, dominating Manhattanville in spurts, but could only pull to within a single goal, losing 5-4. Jason Davis (Northridge, CA/Ventura Mariners) scored his first career goal on the power-play with just 1:05 remaining in the first period. Todd Nowicki (Tonawanda/Wheatfield Blades) started the third period comeback bid with another power-play goal.
Jad Ramsay (Tampa Bay, FL/Rochester Americans) and Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo Blackhawks) scored 54 seconds apart midway through the third period to pull within one, but defense prevailed the rest of the way.
On Saturday, it was Buffalo State who struck first, when Ramsay lit the lamp on the power-play just 2:50 into the contest. Manhattanville opened the second frame with a pair of early goals, before Rocky Reeves (Anchorage, AK/Ventura Mariners) knotted the score at 2-2. The Valiants would add another goal late in the second, and then tallied an insurance marker with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
Buffalo State fell to 9-8 on the season.
Who's Next?
The Bengals will return to SUNYAC play this weekend. Geneseo will visit the Ice Arena for a 7 p.m. face-off on Friday night. Buffalo State defeated the Knights 5-4 in Geneseo earlier this year. Geneseo trails Buffalo State by two points for fourth place in the conference. The Bengals will host Brockport at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are winless in the SUNYAC this season.

Todd Nowicki (Tonawanda/Wheatfield Blades) and Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) are both closing in on becoming Buffalo State's first-ever 100-point scorers. Nowicki, a senior, has 98 points, while, the junior Urbanik has 94.
Record Breaker?
Senior Jad Ramsay (Tampa Bay, FL/Rochester Americans) tallied his first two goals of the season this past weekend. He now holds the Bengal record for most goals in a career by a defenseman with 11. He already held the mark for most assists and points by a blueliner.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD - Bengals Open 2002 Season at Lynchburg Invitational
Buffalo State began its 2002 seaommack/St. John's the Baptist), looking to defend his 2001 NYSCTC Indoor Champion Title in the 200M dash, began his season with a third place showing in the 200M dash recording a convincing time of 23.25.
With the return of Allen the Buffalo State's sprinters look to remain dominating, and judging from this weekend's performances, the distance racers should balance out the team's productivity. In a remarkable 1600 Mile run, the Bengal men finished with consecutive first, second, and third place showings. Earning the victory was Andrew Hurd (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) with a blistering time of 4:29.29. Racing to second place for the Bengals was Joe Niezgoda (Alden/Alden) at 4:39.24 and rounding out the trio was Jason Walsh (Hamburg/Frontier) with a time of 4:42.80. Then, in the 3200M, the Bengals took both second and third place. Walsh ran an outstanding time of 10:20.97 for second place and Matt Kubiak (Lake View/Frontier) followed him with a pace of 10:30.32. Luis Espinoza (Medina/Medina) began his throwing season on a positive note. Espinoza came in third place with a 13.28m Shot Put.
On the women's side, Danielle Henson (Akron/Akron), Paige Patterson (Newfane/Newfane), and Nicole Rowland (Brooklyn/Stephen Austin) all contributed with top ten performances in their events. In the 800M race, Hensel cruised to a 2:45.95 split. The women's side also displayed the promise of a successful season in the distance category thanks to Patterson's time of 6:43.43 in the 1600 Mile Run. Finally, in the triple jump, Rowland leaped to a distance of 9.93m.

The next meet is unofficially scheduled for this Sunday at Hamilton.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY (3-10/3-9) - Buffalo St. Returns to Action this Weekend vs. Plattsburgh
Buffalo State returned to action this past weekend after a five-week break, riding a two-game winning streak. The Bengals squared off against the second ranked team in the ECAC West, the Plattsburgh Cardinals in a two game series.
Saturday night, the Bengals looked to avenge an early season sweep by the Cardinals. Sophomore goaltender, Mary Keddie (Williamsville/Buffalo Bisons), kept the Bengals in the game by allowing only two goals on 54 shots. However, the Cardinals' defense stifled the Buffalo State attack, allowing only seven shots on goal on route to a 2-0 win.
Sunday's game provided Buffalo State with the opportunity to get its offense back on track, and the team did so by scoring two goals in the second period of play. Emma Wadsworth (Arlington, VA/Reston Raiders) led the Bengals with a goal and an assist. Bree Cote (Copperton, UT/Aspen Avalanche) notched the other goal and Jennifer Downey (Freeville/Ithaca Stars) and Janelle Schmitt (Arlington WA/Northwest Admirals) each picked up assists. The two goals were not enough to match Plattsburgh's offense, however, as the Cardinals balanced attack led to an 11-2 defeat of the Bengals.
Who's Next?
The Bengals look to get back on track this weekend as they travel to Neumann College to face the Knights in ECAC West competition. In two previous meetings, the Bengals swept the Knights. Buffalo State is currently 3-10 overall and 3-9 in conference. Neumann's record is 0-12 overall and 0-12 in conference.
Special Efforts
Buffalo State's special team's units are making waves. Bree Cote (Copperton, UT/Aspen Avalanche) is ranked first in the conference for power play goals with three and is tied for 10th in total power play points. Also standing out for the Bengals is Leah Delormier (Rooseveltown/North Country CC), who is currently tied for third in the conference for shorthanded goals.
Vezina Candidate?
With a save percentage of .920 Mary Keddie (Williamsville/Buffalo Bisons) is ranked second in the conference among goaltenders.
SWIMMING & DIn Monday and visited Oswego on Saturday. While the Bengals recorded impressive individual times and scores, both the Red Dragons and Lakers proved to be formidable opponents.
Leading the way for the women on Monday were Alicia Tutwiler (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Jenessa Wheeler (Rochester/Hilton). Tutwiler took first in both the 100-yard (58:99) and 200-yard (2:10.36) Freestyle. Wheeler earned first place for her performance in the 100-yard Breaststroke.
Mark Beyer (West Seneca/West Seneca East) and Matt Helming (Amherst/ Sweet Home) were the top swimmers on the men's side. Beyer won first place in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 57:85, and Helming demolished the field in the 1000-yard Freestyle setting the winning time at 11:37.73. Helming also recorded a second-place finish in 100-yard Backstroke and a third-place showing in the 500-yard Freestyle. Beyer was less than one second away from winning in the 500-yard Freestyle.
In women's diving, Denise Wolff (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) took second in the one-meter event with a score of 154.60. On the men's side, Tom Schilke (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) and Brett Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) each were in the top three of the three meter competition.
Cortland beat Buffalo State's men's and women's teams by scored of 106.5-89.5 and 124-88 respectively.
On Saturday, the Bengals ventured on to face Oswego. The talented and opposing Oswego team entered the meet with a 6-1 record for the men and a women's record of 5-2. Buffalo State's teams had their work cut for them against Oswego but performed admirably.
Recording first place finishes in individual events for the women was Leslie Seier (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon). Seier took first in the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle with times of 26.2 and 57.41 respectively. Natalie Brown (Derby/Odessa-Montour) placed second in both the 400-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Backstroke.
The men's team swam their way to a 77-point total. Mark Beyer (West Seneca/ West Seneca East) and Jamie Scott (Endicott/Union Endicott) led the way for the Bengals. In a close 200-yard Freestyle race, Beyer took second with a time of 1:54.74. Scott placed second with his efforts in the 100-yard Freestyle.
Oswego defeated the men's team by a score of 121-77. The women's team lost to Oswego by a final of 111-88. The men currently stand at 1-6 and the women's record is now 2-6.
Who's Next?
Buffalo State's next competition is against the Gannon Golden Knights, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Kissinger Pool. Gannon's men's team is currently 7-2 and the women are 7-2.
Owning the 100
Leslie Seier (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon). and Alicia Tutwiler (Grand Island/Grand Island) have combined to give the Buffalo State a first place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle in four of the last five meets.
Coming to an End
Buffalo State will close out the Swimming and Diving regular season at Brockport this Saturday, January 26th in a "Double Dual" meet versus Oneonta and Brockport. Last season the men's team won this season finale with outstanding victories over both teams. Buffalo State defeated Oneonta by a score of 69-27 and Brockport by a score of 49-46. The women were also victorious over Oneonta by a score of 54-39.

SWIMMING & DIn Monday and visited Oswego on Saturday. While the Bengals recorded impressive individual times and scores, both the Red Dragons and Lakers proved to be formidable opponents.
Leading the way for the women on Monday were Alicia Tutwiler (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Jenessa Wheeler (Rochester/Hilton). Tutwiler took first in both the 100-yard (58:99) and 200-yard (2:10.36) Freestyle. Wheeler earned first place for her performance in the 100-yard Breaststroke.
Mark Beyer (West Seneca/West Seneca East) and Matt Helming (Amherst/ Sweet Home) were the top swimmers on the men's side. Beyer won first place in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 57:85, and Helming demolished the field in the 1000-yard Freestyle setting the winning time at 11:37.73. Helming also recorded a second-place finish in 100-yard Backstroke and a third-place showing in the 500-yard Freestyle. Beyer was less than one second away from winning in the 500-yard Freestyle.
In women's diving, Denise Wolff (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) took second in the one-meter event with a score of 154.60. On the men's side, Tom Schilke (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) and Brett Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) each were in the top three of the three meter competition.
Cortland beat Buffalo State's men's and women's teams by scored of 106.5-89.5 and 124-88 respectively.
On Saturday, the Bengals ventured on to face Oswego. The talented and opposing Oswego team entered the meet with a 6-1 record for the men and a women's record of 5-2. Buffalo State's teams had their work cut for them against Oswego but performed admirably.
Recording first place finishes in individual events for the women was Leslie Seier (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon). Seier took first in the 50-yard and 100-yard Freestyle with times of 26.2 and 57.41 respectively. Natalie Brown (Derby/Odessa-Montour) placed second in both the 400-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Backstroke.
The men's team swam their way to a 77-point total. Mark Beyer (West Seneca/ West Seneca East) and Jamie Scott (Endicott/Union Endicott) led the way for the Bengals. In a close 200-yard Freestyle race, Beyer took second with a time of 1:54.74. Scott placed second with his efforts in the 100-yard Freestyle.
Oswego defeated the men's team by a score of 121-77. The women's team lost to Oswego by a final of 111-88. The men currently stand at 1-6 and the women's record is now 2-6.
Who's Next?
Buffalo State's next competition is against the Gannon Golden Knights, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Kissinger Pool. Gannon's men's team is currently 7-2 and the women are 7-2.
Owning the 100
Leslie Seier (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon). and Alicia Tutwiler (Grand Island/Grand Island) have combined to give the Buffalo State a first place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle in four of the last five meets.
Coming to an End
Buffalo State will close out the Swimming and Diving regular season at Brockport this Saturday, January 26th in a "Double Dual" meet versus Oneonta and Brockport. Last season the men's team won this season finale with outstanding victories over both teams. Buffalo State defeated Oneonta by a score of 69-27 and Brockport by a score of 49-46. The women were also victorious over Oneonta by a score of 54-39.
