WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (4-2, 2-0) Buffalo State Wins Three on the Road

Buffalo State won three straight road games this week, including a pair of conference victories over Oneonta and New Paltz.

The Bengals visited cross-town rival Medaille on Tuesday night and returned with a 75-54 win. The Bengals dominated from the opening tip as Dionne Turnage (Buffalo/Traditional) and Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) each recorded double-doubles. Turnage tallied 14 points and 11 boards and Hanks notched 15 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) added 12 points in the win.

On Friday, Hanks led the Bengals past Oneonta 48-42, as she recorded her second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Buffalo State's defense forced Oneonta into 28 turnovers and held the Red Dragons to just 19.7 percent field goal shooting. Freshman Maria Wiltshire (White Plains/White Plains) recorded 12 rebounds and six points.

Buffalo State put in a solid defensive effort for 40 minutes again on Saturday, as it defeated New Paltz 55-43. Freshman forward Desiree Gibson (Rochester/Edison Tech) led the Bengals with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kochan poured in 16 points and grabbed nine boards and Hanks had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Buffalo State improved its overall record to 4-2 and opened SUNYAC play with a 2-0 mark.

Who's Next?

Following a break for the holidays, Buffalo State will open the second semester of play at New York University and Manhattanville on January 4th and 5th.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (3-1, 2-0) Buffalo State Open Conference Play with Pair of Wins

Buffalo State opened its conference schedule this weekend with a pair of victories at Oneonta and New Paltz.

On Friday, the Bengals shot 52.9 percent from the field en route to a dominant 89-59 victory at Oneonta. Buffalo State never trailed against the Red Dragons as it opened the contest with a 25-4 run. Four Bengals scored double figures, led by Justin Konst's (Williamsville/Williamsville East) 21 points. Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) added 20 points, Jeremy Konst (Williamsville/Williamsville East) poured in 19 and Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Bengals continued their winning ways on Saturday as they defeated New Paltz, 74-64. Jeremy Konst led all scorers with 23 points. Davis tallied 17 points and 15 rebounds and Becker added 13 points.

Buffalo State improved to 3-1 and is 2-0 to open SUNYAC play.

Buffalo State will return to action on December 28th at the Desert Shootout in Las Vegas where they will face Wilmington.

MEN'S HOCKEY (3-9-1/2-5) - Buffalo State has Splits SUNYAC Weekend

Buffalo State played two SUNYAC games this weekend at the Buffalo State Ice Arena, defeating Potsdam and falling to Plattsburgh.

Friday night, the Potsdam Bears came to town and were defeated by Buffalo State, 3-2. At the 15:37 mark of the first period, Dave Cadarette (Boyne City, MI/Toledo Jr. Storm) tipped in a Ricardo Hernandez (Eagle River, AK/Ventura Mariners) blast from the point on the power play, to give the Bengals a 1-0 lead. Rocky Reeves (Anchorage AK/Ventura Mariners) put Buffalo State up by two when he scored on a pass from Morgan McElman (Bayside, NB/Elmira Jr. Jackals) at 3:41 of the second period. The Bengals then took a 3-0 lead in the late stages of the second period when Jason Sirois (Feeding Hills, MA/Elmira Jr. Jackals) slid a nice backhand shot into the far corner of the net to put Buffalo state up for good. Reeves and Hernandez assisted on the eventual game winner. Potsdam put on a late charge, scoring two goals, but could not get a third goal past Buffalo State goaltender Nick Berti (Orchard Park/Fort Erie) who made 37 saves in the win.

Saturday night Buffalo State played hard, but was eventually defeated by the Plattsburgh Cardinals, 4-3. Plattsburgh got on the board first, and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room after the first period. Plattsburgh then took a 3-0 lead 2:20 into the second period. But at the 7:26 mark, Buffalo State got on the board with a power play goal scored by Mark Infantino (Buffalo/St. Catherines) on a shot from the point. Assists were given to Dan Vogel (Glens Falls/Ft. Erie) and Sirois. Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Capitol Centre Pride) then brought the Bengals within one goal at the 16:35 mark of the second period on assists from Mark Yoder (Fort Wayne IN/Grand Rapids) and Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo). With that assist Urbanik tied the all time scoring mark at Buffalo State with 116 points. At 2:53 of the third period Andre Hitz (Rye Brook/SUNY Morrisville) tied the game with his first goal of his Buffalo State career, on assists from Cadarette, and Allen Pingatore (McCordsville, IN/Columbus Crush). But it was Plattsburgh who netted the game winner with a little over eight minutes remaining. Buffalo State is now 3-9-1 overall, and 2-5 in SUNYAC play.

Who's Next?

Buffalo State will not play until after the holiday break, when it travels to Milwaukee Engineering for a pair of games on Jan. 17th and 18th.

SWIMING & DIVING - Team Travels to Grove City Invitational

The Buffalo State swimming and diving team traveled to Grove City College for the Sixth Annual James E. Longnecker Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The men's team finished ninth of nine teams with a total of 166 points. Highlighting the men's side was diver Bret Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) who placed second in the 1-meter with 219.85 points, and third in the 3-meter with 211.95 points.

The women finished in 10th of 10 teams, and were led by the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team, that finished in 10th place with a time of 4:07.31. Swimming in this event for the Bengals were Lauren Polizzi (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield), Denise Wolff (Cheektowaga/Maryvale), Marie Ryer (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) and Ashley Myers (East Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs).

Who's Next?

Buffalo State will travel to Florida January 2-11, and compete in two meets.
