WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (8-4, 4-0) Buffalo State Remains Unbeaten in SUNYAC

Buffalo State won three games this past week, including a home conference sweep of Potsdam and Plattsburgh.

The Bengals hosted William Smith on Tuesday night, and forced 20 Heron turnovers en route to a 48-45 victory. Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) posted a team-high 17 points, and senior Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) knocked down nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Tiffany Ciolek (Great Valley/Salamanca) recorded a career high 12 rebounds.

Buffalo State used a 24-4 run to open the game to cruise past Potsdam, 83-56, in the Bengals first SUNYAC contest since December 7 on Friday night. Hanks led the Bengals? offensive attack as she matched a career-high with 19 points and tallied seven steals, and Dionne Turnage (Buffalo/Traditional) pitched in 13 points. Freshman Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) added her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Buffalo State?s 83 points was a new season-high.

Despite shooting just 29.3 percent from the field, Buffalo State held on against Plattsburgh on Saturday to win 57-52. Four Bengals scored in double-figures, led by Kochan and freshman Turnage who both recorded double-doubles. Kochan poured in 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Turnage added 14 points and also hauled in 15 boards. Hanks added 13 points and Desiree Gibson (Edison Tech) added 10. Buffalo State outrebounded the Cardinals 58-41, including 27 offensive rebounds compared to Plattsburgh?s 10.

Buffalo State is 8-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Buffalo State will travel to Cortland on Tuesday, before returning home for another SUNYAC set with SUNYIT and Oswego.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (7-4, 3-1) Buffalo State Splits Conference Weekend

Buffalo State returned to SUNYAC play this past weekend on it home court, dropping a heartbreaker to Potsdam on Friday, before running past Plattsburgh on Saturday.

On Friday, Buffalo State led Hilbert (0-9) by just four at the intermission, but used a 21-4 run to open the second half to cruise to a 79-61 victory. Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) and Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) each recorded double-doubles to lead the Bengals. Becker scored 22 points and grabbed 12 boards, and Davis tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Roche (Williamsville/Williamsville East) added 12 points for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State never trailed on Saturday, after opening the game on a 21-7 run, before cruising to an 85-61 victory over Plattsburgh. Becker paced four Bengals in double-digits with 24 points. Davis was dominant for Buffalo State with 15 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, and twin brothers Justin and Jeremy Konst (Williamsville East) each chipped in 11 points. Buffalo State owned the glass all day, as it held a 45-25 rebounding advantage.

Buffalo State is 7-4 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC play.

Buffalo State will travel to Cortland on Tuesday, before returning home for another SUNYAC set with SUNYIT and Oswego.

SWIMMING & DIVING - Bengals Swim Past Fredonia

Buffalo State traveled to Fredonia on Tuesday and swept the Blue Devils men and women in their first home meet at the brand new Steele Hall Natatorium.

On the men's side, Buffalo State had two triple winners in its 99-92 victory. Matt Helming (Amherst/Sweet Home) led the 400-medley relay team to victory with a time of 4:16. Helming also won the 200-free in a time of 1.57, and the 100-free with a time of 51.95. Richard Gaczewski (N. Tonawanda/N.Tonawanda) was also a first place finisher on the 400-medley relay team, along with first place finishes in the 1000-free with a time of 11:20, and the 500-free in 5:21.

There were also two triple winners on the women's side in Buffalo States 114-110 victory. Ashley Myers (E. Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs) led the 400-medley relay team to victory with a time of 4:39. Myers also placed first in the 200-free finishing in 2:11, and in the 200-back with a time of 2:22. Marie Ryer (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) anchored the 400-medley relay team to victory, along with first place finishes in the 50- free and the 100-free, with times of 28.68, and 1:02 respectively.

Buffalo State will host Cortland Monday and Oswego on Saturday at Kissinger Pool.

Record Setters?

Buffalo State took advantage of the new Steele Hall facility to establish 15 pool records in the school's first home meet.

MEN'S HOCKEY (3-11-1/2-5) - Buffalo State Drops Weekend Pair

Buffalo State traveled to the Milwaukee School of Engineering this weekend, and returned home with a pair of losses.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second period on Friday, Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) scored an unassisted goal at the 9:18 mark to get the Bengals on the board. Trailing 5-1 late in the second period, Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Capital Centre Pride) cut the deficit to three goals before the second intermission. Just four minutes into the third period, Milwaukee extended its lead to 6-2, and Buffalo State was held scoreless in the third until Mark Yoder (Fort Wayne, IN/Grand Rapids) notched his third goal of the year at 11:31. Morgan McElman (Bayside, NB/Elmire Jr. Jackals) brought the Bengals within two on his goal at the 18:41 mark. With just 32 second left in the game, Urbanik netted his second of the night, but it was too little too late for the Bengals, as they dropped their 10th game of the year, 6-5.

Saturday afternoon Buffalo State fell behind again early, and did not score until the 11:39 mark of the second period when Yoder netted his second goal of the weekend to cut the lead to 2-1. John Sawyer (Geneseo/SUNY Morrisville) assisted on the goal. This was as close as Buffalo State would come to victory, as the Bengals fell 4-1.

Buffalo State is now 3-11-1 overall, and 2-5 in SUNYAC play.

Who?s next?

Buffalo State will travel to Hobart on Tuesday night to face the Statesmen at 7pm, before returning home on Friday and Saturday nights to host Neumann. Both weekend game times are 7pm.

Urbanik Tops Scoring List?

With his two points on the weekend, senior Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) is now the all time leading scorer in Buffalo State hockey history with 118 points. Todd Nowicki set the previous best last year when he concluded his career with 116 points.
