MEN'S BASKETBALL (11-4, 6-1) Buffalo State Rolls to Three SUNYAC Wins
Buffalo State posted three impressive SUNYAC victories this week to move into a share of the top-spot in the conference with Potsdam.
On Tuesday, Buffalo State visited Cortland, and avenged the loss in last year's quarterfinals by downing the Red Dragons 68-56. The Bengals led 8-0 to start the game and never trailed. Buffalo State led by as many as 23 points in the second half. Cortland closed the gap to 59-50 with 1:54 to play, but cam no closer. Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) led the Bengals with 25 points and nine rebounds. Anthony Piccolo (Depew/Depew) added 14 points and nine boards, and Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
On Friday, Buffalo State shot 54 percent from the field as it blew past SUNYIT 82-72 at the Sports Arena. The Bengals trailed by as many as 11 points in the opening half, but used a 14-4 run in the second half to take a commanding lead. Davis and Piccolo paced the Bengals as the each posted career-highs with 25 points apiece. Davis added 12 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Becker also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Jeremy Konst (Williamsville/Williamsville East) added 10 points for Buffalo State.
The Bengals extended their winning-streak to four games on Saturday, when they opened up a 46-29 lead over Oswego by half time, and then cruised to an 88-63 victory. Becker led four Bengals in double-figures with 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Piccolo added 16 points and eight boards, and Davis tallied 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Jeremy Konst chipped in 13 points from the Bengals. Buffalo State outrebounded Oswego 57-40.
Buffalo State is 11-4 overall and 6-1 in SUNYAC play.

Buffalo State will host Geneseo at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, before travelling to Plattsburgh on Friday night.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (10-5, 6-1) Buffalo State Wins Two of Three in SUNYAC
Buffalo State suffered its first conference loss of the season, before rebounding with a pair of home wins over SUNYIT and Oswego.
On Tuesday, Cortland handed Buffalo State only its second conference loss in two seasons, 56-38. Buffalo State shot a dismal 22-percent from the field and scored just 16 first-half points. Tiffany Ciolek (Great Valley/Salamanca) led Buffalo State with eight points and added four rebounds.
On Friday, Buffalo State outscored SUNYIT 41-27 in the second half to erase a difficult opening 20 minutes and escape with a 65-51 victory at the Sports Arena. Buffalo State earned the victory despite shooting just 25 percent in the first half and 31.5 percent for the game. Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) led Buffalo State, recording career-highs in both points and rebounds with 23 and 17 respectively. Freshman Dionne Turnage (Buffalo/Traditional) also tallied a double-double for the Bengals with 13 points and 12 boards.
The Bengals dominated the glass on Saturday, en route to a 71-53 victory over Oswego at the Sports Arena, as it outrebounded the Lakers 49-35 including 20 offensive boards. Junior Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) paced the Bengals with a career-high 20 points, and recorded eight rebounds and four assists. Turnage and Desiree Gibson (Rochester/Edison Tech) joined Hanks in double-figures with 13 and 12 points respectively, and each grabbed seven rebounds.
Buffalo State is 10-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

TRACK & FIELD - Indoor Season Begins at St. Lawrence Classic
Buffalo State opened its second season under Coach Eugene Lewis on Saturday at the St. Lawrence Indoor Classic with the men placing third of eight teams with 84 points, and the women finishing sixth of nine with 41 points.
On the men's side, Buffalo State had four individuals earn first place finishes, led by Aaron Masters (Grand Island/Grand Island), who set a new field house record in the pole vault with a leap of 4.28 meters (14'1/2"). The vault also broke the school record of 4.27 meters which was set in 1984 by Steve Adams. Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) won the 400m run with a time of 51.06. Eugene Overton (Syracuse/Corcoran) took first place in the 55m dash in 6.65, and freshman Tammon Benjamin (Mt. Vernon/Mt. Vernon) ran the 55m hurdles in 8.0.
Highlighting the women's side was freshman Linda Williams (Rochester/Edison Tech) who set a new school record in the 55m dash in her first collegiate meet with a time of 7.55. The old record was 7.64 set by Tracy Watts in 1990. Freshman Celestine Coney (Lyons/Lyons) also had a strong showing in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.04, good for third place.

Buffalo State will return to action on Sunday, February 9 at the Syracuse Invitational.
MEN'S HOCKEY (5-12-1/2-5) - Bengals Sweep Neumann; Fall at Hobart
After falling to Hobart on Wednesday, Buffalo State hosted Neumann College this weekend, and skated away with two non-conference victories.
Wednesday night Buffalo State traveled to Hobart College, and was blanked by the Statesmen, 5-0. Steve Thering (Fairport/Morrisville) made 35 saves for the Bengals.
On Friday night, after falling behind 2-0 midway through the first period, senior Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) put the Bengals on the board with his 10th goal of the season, assisted by Corey Waszkielewicz (West Seneca/Buffalo Lightning) and goaltender Nick Berti (Orcherd Park/Fort Erie). Buffalo State hit the ice for the second period on fire, lighting the lamp just two minutes in, off the stick of Dave Cadarette (Boyne City, MI/Toledo Jr. Storm) on a tip of the Mark Infantino (Buffalo/St. Catherines) blast from the point. Another Caderette goal just 2:32 later, on the power play, put the Bengals in the lead for the first time. Neumann tied the score at the 10:31 mark, but Buffalo State would answer back, again on the power play. This time it was Ricardo Hernandez (Eagle River, AK/Ventura Mariners) from Urbanik, and Mark Yoder (Fort Wayne, IN/Grand Rapids). At the 19:52 mark, Jason Sirois (Feeding Hills, MA/Elmira Jr. Jackals) put the Bengals in the lead for good, netting his fourth goal of the season. The third period proved to be another powerful one for Buffalo State, as it scored another four goals. Sean Mask (London, ONT/Petrolia Jets) and Dan Vogel (Glens Falls/Ft. Erie) each scored their first goals of the year, and Urbanik put home two more to complete the hat trick.
Saturday, Buffalo State again fell behind early, this time it trailed 3-0 after the first period. In the second period, it was all Buffalo State, starting with Morgan McElman (Bayside, NB/Elmira Jr. Jackals) who scored his 5th goal of the year at the 16:33 mark. Just 27 seconds later, Cadarette scored his third goal of the weekend on a nice pass from McElman. Buffalo State tied the score only 38 seconds into the third, on a Hernandez blast from the top of the slot. Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Capital Centre Pride) and Yoder were given the assists. Then at the 3:38 mark, Brian Janke (Anchorage, AK/Buffalo Lightning) banged home a loose puck in front of the net to give the Bengals the 4-3 lead. Three minutes later, Neumann tied the score at 4-4. On the power play at the 16:31 mark, Urbanik scored the game winner from Yoder and Hernandez. After this weekend Buffalo State is now 5-12-1 overall, and 2-5 in SUNYAC play.

Buffalo State will be on the road next weekend for two SUNYAC games. Friday night the Bengals will play in Oswego, and Saturdaythey will play in Cortland. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
SWIMMING & DIVING - Oswego Swims Past Buffalo State
The Oswego Lakers came to Kissinger pool on Saturday and defeated the Bengals on both the men's and women's sides, setting five pool records.
Diver Bret Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) finished second in the men's three-meter dive with a total of 228.15. Matt Helming (Amherst/Sweet Home) also took second place in the men's 200-fly finishing in 2:30. The men's record now stands at 1-5.
On the women's side, Ashley Myers (E. Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs) took first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:22, and also finished second in the 200-free with a time of 2:09. Diver Susanna Lehmann (Alexander/Alexander) captured first place in the one-meter dive, with a total of 172.65. The women's record is now 2-5.

Buffalo State will travel to Gannon University on Wednesday before hosting Oneonta and Brockport in a double-dual meet on Saturday.
