MEN’S BASKETBALL (9-3/3-1) – Buffalo State Extends Winning Streak to Six

Perry Davis’ (Buffalo/Seneca) first career triple-double helped Buffalo State (9-3/3-1) sprint past New Paltz (3-7/1-3), 89-58, in Friday night’s SUNYAC contest at the Sports Arena. Davis, a senior forward, scored 22 points and added 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Buffalo State led wire-to-wire, building on a 39-28 halftime advantage with a 50-point second half. The Bengals shot 51.9-percent from the field.

Joshua Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) supported Davis’ performance with 19 points and eight rebounds of his own. Michael Miranto (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) added 10 points in the win.

Buffalo State will travel to Geneseo Tuesday night for an 8 p.m. tip-off.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (5-7/3-1) – Buffalo State Wins When it Counts

Buffalo State opened the week by dropping a 65-33 decision at William Smith in Geneva, NY on Tuesday.

The Bengals trailed 39-15 at halftime and were unable to climb back into the game as they shot just 20.6-percent from the field for the contest. Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) was the lone Bengal to score in double-figures with 14 points and added seven rebounds.

Buffalo State (5-7/3-1) rebounded as it returned to conference play on Friday, however, as it edged New Paltz (4-7/1-3) 58-55.

The Bengals led 29-20 at halftime, but New Paltz rallied in the second half. The Hawks led by one on a pair of occasions in the second half, but Buffalo State managed to pull out the three-point victory.

Desi Gibson (Rochester/Edison Tech) led four Bengals in double-figures with 11 points and added eight rebounds. Tawan Slaughter (Buffalo/Christian Central), Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) and Hanks all scored 10 points for the Bengals.

Buffalo State will travel to Geneseo Tuesday evening for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY (1-11-1/0-7-1) – Bengals Earn First Conference Point

Buffalo State fell by a 5-4 margin to conference opponent Neumann on Saturday at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Buffalo State took a 1-0 advantage into the final frame on a Maddy Loftus (Parsippany, NJ/Pittsburgh Firebirds) goal with less than five minutes remaining in the second period. The Bengals went up 2-0 after senior Janelle Schmitt (Arlington, WA/Northwest Admirals) scored just 58 seconds into the third period. The Knights would tie the score with two quick goals coming less than a minute apart with 15 minutes to play in the game. Captain Emma Wadsworth (Arlington, VA/Reston Raiders) would put the Bengals back on top with under ten minutes to play in regulation, but Neumann tied the game and then took a 4-3 lead with eight minutes left in the game. Neumann’s Michelle Gressett, who had a goal and four assists in the game, would score the eventual game-winning goal, shorthanded, at the 15:59 mark. The Bengals closed the lead to 5-4 with a minute and a half to play when senior Kim Costanzo (Cheektowaga/Buffalo Bisons) scored. The Bengals were unable to score with the extra attacker on the ice and the game ended 5-4.

Buffalo State goaltender Mary Keddie (Williamsville/Buffalo Bisons) made 30 saves in the game. Wadsworth was Buffalo State’s leading scorer with a goal and two assists, Schmitt and Loftus each added a goal and an assist to their season totals. The Bengals were outshot 35-23 in the tilt.

Buffalo State skated to a 3-3 tie Sunday against Neumann on Sunday in a game of firsts for the Bengals, as they earn their first tie and first conference point of the season.

All three of Buffalo State's goals came in the opening period after Neumann took an early 1-0 lead. Mal Nutting (Gardiner, ME/Gardiner) got thel just 24 seconds after the Knights took the lead. Later in the period, Jamie Overbeck (Tonawanda/Buffalo Bisons) scored her first career goal, and added a second tally just under three minutes later.

The Bengals held the 3-1 advantage until 6:43 of the third period when Neumann closed the gap to a single goal. The Knights knotted the score with just over six minutes remaining, and neither team would score again, despite a couple of outstanding chances for both teams in the overtime period.

Keddie made 30 saves between the pipes for the Bengals.

Buffalo State is now 1-11-1 and 0-7-1 in ECAC West play. The Bengals will travel to meet Trinity for a pair of non-conference games next Saturday and Sunday.

SWIMMING & DIVING – Bengals Wrap up Home Schedule

Buffalo State closed out its home schedule on Saturday with a dual meet against Division II Gannon, falling 130-57 on the women's side and 135-79 for the men.

Prior to the meet, Buffalo State recognized the efforts of seniors Mark Manka (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West), Tommy Schilke (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) and Bret Stodolka (Darien/Alexander), and junior Marie Ryer (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) for competing in Kissinger Pool for the final time prior to the start of the meet.

Mindy Wood (Middlesex/Marcus Whitman) won the 1000 free with a time of 11:46.27 to highlight the women's docket. The Bengals lone victory on the men's side cam in the 50 free, when Derek Stoklosa (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West) touched first with a time of 23.69.

The Bengals next meet will be Monday at Cortland.
