FOOTBALL (0-1) Bengals Start 0-2 with Loss at Mansfield
Mansfield (2-0) pitched its second consecutive shutout, blanking Buffalo State 19-0 today at Van Norman Field, dropping the Bengals to 0-2 for just the second time since 1989.
The Mounties opened the scoring with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter when tailback Earnest McNeal broke a 47-yard run for a touchdown, set up by a Ronnie Montgomery interception. Mansfield missed the point-after attempt, and led 6-0. After Buffalo State was forced to punt on its next possession, Mansfield drove the ball inside of the Bengals 10-yard line, but Buffalo State forced a turnover on downs when the Mounties failed to convert on fourth-and-one.
Mansfield held on to the six-point advantage until the third play of the second half, until McNeal got lose again, scoring on a 71-yard run. After a failed two-point conversion, the Mounties led 12-0. Mansfield added the final score of the game late in the third quarter on a 26-yard strike from Travis Motley to Joe Bennett.
McNeal finished the day with 209 yards on 18 carries and had three receptions for 13 yards. Motley was 13-for-21 for 145 yards and Bennett was the Mounties leading receiver with four catches for 75 yards. Montgomery added a second interception and also had a fumble recovery.
Buffalo States quarterback Mike Mikolaichik (Hilton/Hilton) was 12-of-28 passing for 120 yards with two interceptions. Curtis Hathcock (Buffalo/Bennett) was held to just 44 yards on 14 rushes. Nick Warren (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) paced the defense with 10 tackles.

Buffalo State will host Albion this Saturday at 1 p.m. The Britons are 0-1 and coming off of a bye this past Saturday.
CROSS COUNTRY Bengals Run at Oswego Invitational
Buffalo State competed at the Oswego Pat Peterson Invitational on Saturday as the men placed seventh of 11 teams with 189 points, and the women finished ninth of 12 teams with 209 points.
AJ Walsh (Hamburg/Frontier) led the way on the mens side for the second-straight meet, placing sixth of 131 runners with a time of 26:09. James Howze (Amherst/Sweet Home) placed 39th in 28:54, and Matt Kubiak (Lakeview/Frontier) crossed the line 43rd in 29:04 in his first race of the season. Josh Demars (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) and Jon Jackson (Utica/TR Proctor) rounded out the Bengals point scorers placing 50th and 51st with times of 29:25 and 29:27 respectively.
On the womens side, Tiffany Knarr (East Aurora/Iroquois) led a pack of Bengals runners, placing 37th of 132 runners with a time of 20:59. Kristen Gregoire placed 40th in 21:27, Nichole Van Hoesen (Stamford/Stamford) crossed 42nd in 21:20, and Aleksandra Halin (Clarence/Clarence) finished 43rd in 21:25. Jennifer Vacanti (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) completed Buffalo States point scoring, claiming 47th with a time of 21:30.

VOLLEYBALL (6-9) Bengals Fall in North Country Invitational Championship
Buffalo State went 3-2 this past week, advancing to the North Country Invitational Championship before falling to Clarkson for the second time of the tournament.
The Bengals opened the tourney on Friday with a 3-1 victory over Hartwick, by scores of 30-18, 27-30, 30-26 and 34-32. Krista Wierzbicki (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) drove the Bengals offense, dishing out 45 assists and also registered 22 digs. Vicky Manos (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) and Sam Damstetter (West Seneca/West Seneca East) each recorded 15 kills and Denise Jedynak (Hamburg/Frontier) had 33 digs.
In Fridays nightcap, Buffalo State fell to undefeated Clarkson, 22-30, 30-27, 20-30 and 26-30, but became the first team this season to take a game from the Knights. Wierzbicki had 42 assists and 21 digs in this match, while Manos fired 20 kills. Damstetter added 15 kills and Keri Bumgardner (Babylon/West Babylon) and Phaelyn Koch (Farmington/Victor) each added 10 kills. Jedynak anchored the back row again with 32 digs, and Lindsay McKenrick (Alden/Alden) recorded 24 digs.
The Bengals opened Saturday with an easy victory over St. Lawrence, 30-20, 30-15 and 30-20. Manos had 12 kills and 10 digs, Jedynak recorded 26 digs, and Wierzbicki served up 21 assists and five aces.
Buffalo State continued its winning ways in the afternoon, defeating Plattsburgh 30-26, 30-27, 24-30, 30-25. Wierzbicki recorded 45 assists and 11 digs to lead the way. Manos pounded 24 kills, and Jen Breier (Grand Island/Grand Island) had 13 kills in the win.
In the championship match, the Bengals faced Clarkson for the second time in as many days, and were met with similar results, falling 28-30, 25-30 and 23-30. Wierzbicki played well again with 41 assists, 12 digs, and eight kills. Manos added 16 kills, Damstetter had 13 kills and 13 digs, and Jedynak recorded 19 digs.
Buffalo State is now 6-9 on the season.

Buffalo State will visit nationally-ranked Nazareth on Tuesday, before returning to the Rochester-area on the weekend for the Nazareth Invitational.
With Honors
Buffalo State seniors Krista Wierzbicki (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Vicky Manos (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) were both named to the North Country Invitational All-Tournament Team. Wiezbicki had 194 assists and 76 digs in 18 games, and Manos led the Bengals with 87 kills, and also had 11 aces.
WOMENS SOCCER (2-2) Bengals Lose 4-1 to RIT
Buffalo State traveled down I-90 on Wednesday to RIT and returned on the losing end of a 4-1 decision.
The Tigers opened the game by scored three-straight goals in the first half. RIT would build on its 3-0 lead with an early goal in the second half. Sophomore Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) scored the Bengals only goal in the 79th minute of the game to finish the days scoring at 4-1. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Bingerman (Great Valley/Ellicottville) recorded nine saves on 13 shots.
The Bengals were outshot 13-3 in the contest. RIT entered the game ranked ninth in the Northeast Region.

The Bengals next two games will be road contests against SUNYAC members Brockport and Geneseo. Buffalo State will travel to Brockport on Friday for a 4 p.m. game and then play Geneseo the following day at 1 p.m.
MENS SOCCER (1-3) - Bengals Drop Home Opener 1-0 to Nazareth
Buffalo State dropped their third 1-0 decision this year on Tuesday when the Nazareth Golden Flyers downed the Bengals at Coyer Field.
The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 for the first 42 minutes of play but the Golden Flyers would score the eventual game winner on a 40-foot shot that eluded freshman goalkeeper Shawn McDonell (West Seneca/West Seneca East). The Bengals and Golden Flyers ended tied for shots on goal with three a piece. McDonnell registered two saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Bengals next game will be on Monday against Buffalo-rival Medaille College at Coyer Field at 4:00 pm. The Bengals home stand continues when conference-rival Brockport comes to Coyer Field on Friday for a 4 p.m. start. Geneseo will battle Buffalo State on Saturday at the North Practice Field in a 1 p.m. game.

All three of Buffalo States losses this season have come in 1-0 decisions. The Bengals have not scored a goal in 191 minutes.
