Bengals Win Three Events in New York State Track and Field Championships

Buffalo State athletes captured three championships today at the NYSCTC Championships held at St. Lawrence University as the men finished seventh of 14 teams, while the women placed 13th of 15 teams.

On the men's side, Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) placed first in the 400m dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.95, just .01 seconds shy of the meet record. Muise also joined Eugene Overton (Syracuse/Corcoran), Frank Ortiz (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) and Tim Giagos (Rochester/Gates-Chili) to win the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:31.43. Other strong performances included Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) in the high jump (2nd/1.90m) and in the triple jump (3rd/13.31m), Matthew Kubiak (Lakeview/Frontier) in the 1,000m run (5th/2:35.31), and Aaron Masters (Grand Island/Grand Island) in the pole vault (5th/4.25m).

Sophomore Linda Williams (Rochester/Edison Tech) was the lone point-scorer on the women's side as she claimed the 55m dash championship for the second straight year, with a time of 7.41. She also placed seventh in the 200m dash in 27.57.
