Bristol-Myers Squibb (Westwood) Buffalo Technical Operations has made a generous donation of lab equipment to Buffalo State College's Chemistry Department.

The lab equipment, courtesy of Plant Manager John Seager, Director of Quality Control and Quality Assurance Dr. Michael Munster and Associate Manager of Quality Control Chemistry Robert Keem, includes gas chromatographs, microscopes, analytical balances and scales, illuminators and HPLC diode-arrays and detectors.

The equipment will be used by Buffalo State chemistry students studying organic, analytical and physical chemistry as well as forensic chemistry, environmental chemistry, biochemistry and instrumental analysis.

Buffalo State's chemistry program offers a bachelor of arts program in chemistry that prepares students for careers in analytical, inorganic, organic or physical chemistry. Its bachelor of science program in secondary education leads to a New York State Initial Certificate for teaching both chemistry and general science in grades seven through 12. The college's bachelor of science degree in forensic chemistry is a specialized professional program that enables students to become forensic chemists. The college also offers a chemistry minor that can be customized to enable students to develop a specialty in a scientific field, prepare for medical school entrance exams or become certified to teach chemistry. Additional programs include a master of arts degree in chemistry, master of science in chemistry education and a postbaccalaureate teaching program.

Buffalo State's B.A. program is accredited by the American Chemical Society, a distinction achieved by only 25 percent of undergraduate programs in the U.S.
