Middle and high school students participating in a Buffalo State College and Buffalo Police Athletic League community project will gather this weekend (May 22-23) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the campus boat shop behind Upton Hall (Lot S-1) to build boats to supply the summer boat livery on Hoyt Lake.

The 15 1/2 –foot rowing skiffs were designed by Buffalo State College Professors John Montague and Richard Butz and adjunct professor Chuck Meyer. Advance technology education student Chris Tackett and Jim Chirico will serve as mentors for the youth who will build the four new boats that will be added to the seven-boat fleet built two years ago at Buffalo State College.

The full fleet will be for rent in July near the Delaware Park Casino under the auspices of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy as part of its commitment to restoring the park lake to its original use.
