Buffalo State Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2007
Legendary former men’s basketball coach Dick Bihr will lead six new additions into the Buffalo State Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 29 in the Sports Arena’s Hall of Fame Lobby.
Simon Buisman (Soccer, ’72), Jon Crumley (Football, ’99), Chris Henry (Football, ’00), Chrissy Milleville (Basketball, ’02) and Todd Nowicki (Hockey, ’02) will join Bihr in the Class of 2007.
Bihr coached the Bengals men’s basketball team for 25 seasons, pacing the Bengals to a 449-211 career record (a .680 winning percentage), 11 SUNYAC Championships and 12 NCAA Playoff appearances. The Bengals received their highest national ranking under Bihr during the 1982-83 season when they earned the No. 1 spot in the nation after a 10-0, that included wins over Canisius and Niagara.
Bihr was a six-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year and led the Bengals to 10 20-win seasons and coached eight 1,000-point scorers before he retired in 2005. Bihr also served as an Assistant Athletics Director, and competed for Buffalo State when he earned his bachelor’s degree in the late 1960s.
Buisman was a four-year member of the men’s soccer program and was named All-American in 1972 and selected to play in the Senior Bowl soccer game in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Fla. He also garnered all-conference and all-state honors as a defender in both his junior and senior seasons. Buisman was a part of the 1970 SUNYAC Championship team that fell to Columbia in the NCAA Tournament.
Following his collegiate career, he was drafted into the North American Soccer League and made the roster for the Rochester Lancers. Buisman is also a member of the Penfield High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
Crumley concluded his four-year football career with the Bengals as a consensus All-American and played in the Aztec Bowl Senior All-Star Game in Mexico. The linebacker’s other honors included being and ECAC All-Star and the recipient of both the Hube Coyer Award for career accomplishments and the Bengal Male Athlete of the Year Award.
Crumley still holds the school record for tackles in a career with 347 and finished with 12 sacks and 43 tackles for a loss. He helped the Bengals to a 32-10 overall record, three NCAA Playoff appearances and an ECAC Bowl Championship.
Henry started at quarterback for four seasons and finished his career with a 31-12 record and nearly every Buffalo State passing record. He remains the school’s all-time leader in passing yards in a game (413), season (2,660) and career (7.978). He also has the touchdown records in a game (5), season (21) and career (57).
A First Team All-Region pick as a senior, he was also a two-time ECAC All-Star. Henry led the Bengals to two NCAA playoff appearances, including a 1998 victory over Springfield, and two ECAC Bowl Championships.
Milleville ranks sixth in the history of the Bengals’ women’s basketball program with 1,107 career points and holds the school record for steals in a game with nine. She helped lead the team to a SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Playoff appearance during her senior season when she averaged a career-best 13.1 points-per-game.
Milleville was a Second Team All-SUNYAC section as a senior and was the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman. During her four years, her teams went a combined 81-26 (.757).
Nowicki is the only Buffalo State men’s hockey’s only All-American, earning Second Team honors as a senior. That year, he was also the SUNYAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. He was a two-time recipient of the Bengal Male Athlete of the Year Award and also claimed the Hube Coyer Award for career accomplishments.
Nowicki is the second leading scorer in school history with 59 goals and 116 points. He helped lead the Bengals to their first-ever SUNYAC playoff appearance and scored three goals in the team’s first playoff win. He went on to play professionally for four seasons following graduation in the East Coast, World Hockey Association 2, the Atlantic Coast and United Hockey Leagues.
