Buffalo State College Establishes Strategic Planning Office
Dorcas Colvin, former associate vice president and director of human resource management at Buffalo State College, has been named senior advisor to the president for strategic planning.
In her new capacity, Colvin will be responsible for creating implementation strategies and a monitoring framework for the college's five-year strategic plan. Additionally, she will oversee professional development for the campus.
Susan J. Earshen, formerly director of human resource development, will assume leadership of the Human Resource Management Office. Her responsibilities include employee relations, oversight for personnel policies and procedures and payroll.
Marie Mance, manager of organizational development, has joined the new Strategic Planning Office. Previously, she reported to Human Resource Management.
Colvin has served Buffalo State College since Jaunary 1989 as the associate vice president for human resource management. Prior to that, she served as executive assistant to the president and director of faculty and staff relations at William Paterson University of New Jersey. She has also held positions in personnel administration at the University of Iowa, as well as in benefits administration at the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors in Tonawanda. She is a member of the board of directors of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Buffalo Seminary. She holds a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a master's from the University of Iowa.
Earshen has had a 30-year career at Buffalo State College. She has served as manager of employee benefits and assistant director of human resources in addition to her current and previous post. Vice-chair of the board of directors of Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County, she sits on the United Way Resource Management/Community Service Committee. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree from the University at Buffalo.
In addition to her organizational development position, Mance is an adjunct faculty member in Buffalo State's Creative Studies Department. Before coming to Buffalo State in 1993, she was director of residence life at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. A guest lecturer and consultant in creativity and creative problem solving and a member of the Creative Education Foundation, she holds master's degrees from Buffalo State College and Springfield College and a bachelor's degree from the University at Albany.
