Buffalo State College to Host Renowned Metalsmith Tom Muir

Western New Yorkers, artists and collectors will have an opportunity to hear one of the country's foremost practitioners of metalsmithing and jewelry making when Tom Muir discusses his work February 22, 7 - 8 p.m., Buffalo State College, Bulger Communications Building East.

The lecture, which is free, covers 25 years of Muir's distinguished and diverse career. He will discuss the ancient art and science of metal vessels, as well as the creative process for his work.

Muir has participated in more than 300 exhibitions in the United States and abroad. His award-winning work has been published and exhibited extensively, including The White House Collection of American Crafts, the National Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution. Muir is Distinguished Research Professor in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University, where he is head of the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Department.

Following the lecture, guests will have the opportunity to meet Muir. The event is part of Buffalo State College's Arts and Humanities Distinguished Speaker Series Innovations in Creative Expression, which features acclaimed artists and experts in art conservation, music, design, theater, communications, interior design and art education. The Tom Muir lecture is hosted by Students Involved in the Art of Metalsmithing (S.I.A.M.) and funded by the United Student Government (USG).
