Buffalo State College has won a $125,000 grant from the 21st Century Fund to establish a Community Maritime Center at its Waterfront Campus to facilitate public access to the city's waterfront.

The Waterfront Campus at the foot of Porter Avenue will encompass Buffalo State's Great Lakes Center for Environmental Research and Education, a community boat-building facility, waterfront pavilion, historic boat museum, public docks, an ecolab teaching center, wetland demonstration center, the Erie County Environmental Educational Institute and the Yahara boat house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, to be built by the West Side Rowing Club.

The college is launching a $3 million campaign to raise funds for the project.
