Buffalo State's outdoor track and field teams opened their season on Saturday at the Duke University Invitational by promptly setting four new school records.

Freshman sensation Celestine Coney (Lyons/Lyons) played a major part in three of the new bests, setting individual records in the 100m and 400m hurdles, as well as helping set a new standard in the 4x100m relay. Coney sprinted to a time of 15.27 in the 100m hurdles, surpassing the old time of 15.69, set by Merna Morris in 1995. Her time of 1:04.18 in the 400m hurdles was also a new best, beating the previous record of 1:05.03 by Tascha Moore in 2000. Coney also teamed with freshmen Linda Williams (Rochester/Edison Tech), Desiree Gibson (Rochester/Edison Tech) and senior Autumn Hensel (Akron/Akron) to eclipse the school record in the 4x100m with a 50.32 clocking. The previous best time was 50.90 set in 1986.

On the men's side, freshman Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) also set a Buffalo State record in his first outdoor meet, running a time of 53.69 in the 400m hurdles. The previous record was 54.50 by Mike Burroughs in 1981.
