Buffalo State Freshmen Standouts Continue to Make Mark on Track

Buffalo State freshmen Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) and Celestine Coney (Lyons/Lyons) are continuing to make their marks on the school's track and field record books.

Muise set a new school best in the 400m run on Saturday with a time of 47.06, erasing the previous best of 47.60 by Buffalo State Hall of Famer Neil Hall in 1986. Muise captured first place in the race at the Wright/Campbell Open at the University of Akron against Division I competition including runners from Ohio State, Toledo and Kent State.

Coney answered Muise's accomplishment on Tuesday when she won the heptathlon at the Baldwin-Wallace Twilight Meet, which included a Buffalo State record in the high jump when she cleared 1.56 meters. The previous record belonged to Yolande Francis at 1.52m in 2001.

Both Muise and Coney are qualified to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships at St. Lawrence on May 22 through 24.
