The Buffalo State College Alumni Association will host the third annual Armed Services Reunion on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center. The event, which begins at noon, will honor Buffalo State graduates, students, emeriti, faculty and staff who have served or are currently serving in any branch of the United States military.

“I feel strongly that Buffalo State’s veterans helped make the country and this college what it is today,” said 1951 graduate Tom Schwob, a retired 48-year Navy veteran. “It is important to continually recognize those who served before, during, or after their time here at Buffalo State.”

The program includes lunch, a performance by the Silas L. Boyd Memorial A Cappella Alumni Choir, and an exhibition of drawings from the Pacific Theater by William H. Schmidt, ’50. Following lunch, a brief ceremony will be held at the monument, which was dedicated in 2005 at the first reunion. The monument is located near Anniversary Wall behind Rockwell Hall.

Schwob, who served on the organizing committee for the inaugural event, has seen a steady growth in attendance and expects a similar increase this year. “It is a great event to renew old friendships and also exchange stories about the past,” he said.

The reservation cost is $20 and includes lunch, a memento, and a $5 donation to the military service scholarship award. Call the Alumni Office at (716) 878-6001 to charge by phone or stop by Cleveland Hall 305 to reserve your spot.
