Buffalo State College will hold its first-ever Armed Services Reunion Friday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 6. The event honors alumni, faculty, staff, emeriti and students who have served or are serving in any branch of the United States or Allied military.

The weekend will bring together members of the Buffalo State College family who share both the bonds of military service and the college, plus classmates, friends and family who wish to join in recognizing their contributions to protecting and defending the United States. Buffalo native and highest ranking Buffalo State College graduate Major General Richard M. Cooke, United States Marine Corps, will make remarks during Saturday’s tribute and monument dedication that will include a joint services color guard and flag that flew over the Capitol on Aug. 16 at the request of the Honorable Louise M. Slaugher, member of Congress. Music will be provided by the Buffalo State College Wind Ensemble and the Silas L. Boyd Memorial A Cappella Alumni Choir.

Friday’s events include:

Tour of Duty – Buffalo: Participants will visit some of Buffalo’s architectural landmarks, including the Connecticut Street Armory with special guide and author on the armory, Warren Baltes, a 1975 graduate of Buffalo State College. The tour will also include a visit to memorials along the waterfront and end with a reception at the Buffalo Yacht Club, the third oldest yacht club in the United States. 1 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Saturday’s events include:

Entrepreneurial Training and Business Opportunities for U.S. Veterans: Sponsored by the Buffalo State College Small Business Development Center, this program will offer the following sessions: Advantages to Veterans and Selling to Private Corporations, Advantages of Business Planning, The Ingredients Necessary to Finance a Business, and Networking Opportunities for Veterans. 9 a.m.-noon, Bacon Hall Room 117.

Reunion Mess: A family-style lunch with lots of food and the opportunity for participants to catch up on the news with classmates and friends. Noon-1:30 p.m., Niagara Frontier Post 1041, American Legion, 533 Amherst St. Buffalo.

Caravan: A caravan of military vehicles and participants carrying flags to the reunion celebration at Rockwell Hall. 1:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m., American Legion Parking Lot.

Tribute: A tribute to Buffalo State College’s veterans, including a memorabilia display. 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Rockwell Hall Auditorium.

Monument Dedication: A ceremony to dedicate a monument honoring members of the Buffalo State College family who served in the military. 3:30 p.m., Anniversary Wall behind Rockwell Hall.

Leave Opportunities: Activities in various locations, including a tour of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center and campus tours. 4 p.m.-5 p.m.

Farewell Dinner: A gourmet meal accompanied by piano music at Campus House, Buffalo State College’s private club for faculty, staff and alumni, and teaching laboratory for hospitality and tourism students. 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Campus House.

Sunday’s events include:

Armed Forces Sabbath: A special Mass with members of the Buffalo community, celebrated by Monsignor James Campbell, a 1952 Buffalo State College graduate.
