Buffalo State Offers Distance Learning Master's Degree in Adult Education Through Westchester Community College
Buffalo State College, in partnership with Westchester Community College, is accepting applications to its master's degree program in adult education. Upon acceptance into the program, students may begin taking courses as early as summer 2002. Students can earn a complete Buffalo State College master's degree in two years by taking two courses each semester, including summers, or elect to take courses over a longer period.
All courses will be offered at Westchester Community College through live interactive television or on the Internet. Enrollment is limited.
This fall begins the second year of Buffalo State's partnership with Westchester Community College. Buffalo State also offers its adult education master's degree on a distance learning basis in Jamestown, Rochester, Binghamton and Nassau County as well as a 100 percent online program.
The adult education degree granted by Buffalo State College is approved by the New York State Education Department and the State University of New York (SUNY) Central Administration, and is consistent with the American Association for the Adult and Continuing Education's Commission of Professors' guidelines for graduate programs in adult education in the United States. Buffalo State's program is the only adult education master's degree program offered in the SUNY system and one of only four such programs in New York State.
The adult education master's degree provides a foundation in teaching adults in educational, business, government and community agency settings. It nurtures skills in managing programs and personnel in each of these settings and fosters an understanding of the learning needs and opportunities of adult and non-traditional learners in a constantly changing technological society.
Two courses will be offered on Tuesday evenings for summer 2002: CSP 532: Vocational Development and Career Counseling and EDF 688: Leadership in Organizations. Classes run from June 25 through Aug. 6.
