The Night Sky, a program detailing the stars, planets and constellations of the autumnal sky, will be offered by Buffalo State College's Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium each Friday at 7 p.m. from Sept. 27 through December 20.

Open to the public, the 45-minute program will detail basic astronomic concepts such as the size, color, temperature, magnitude and distance in light years of stars visible in the northern hemisphere in autumn. Visible planets and deep space objects will also be identified.

Constellations such as the Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Draco, Pegasus, Andromeda, Hercules and the summer triangle of Cygnus, Lyra and Aquila will be described and projected to simulate their movements on the large indoor dome of the planetarium, said Art Gielow, director of the planetarium.

An observation hour will follow 30 minutes after the planetarium program from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. if weather permits, Gielow added.

Buffalo State's Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium is located in the Science Building on the campus at 1300 Elmwood Ave.

Admission is $5 per person.
