Buffalo State Receives $75K Matching Grant from Margaret L. Wendt Foundation
The Buffalo State College Art Conservation Department has been authorized a grant of $75,000 from the Trustees of The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation.
The funds will help raise the match requirement on an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation challenge for the endowment of a chair in art conservation science and for conservation science research funds at Buffalo State College. The Mellon Foundation provided $1.5 million with a match requirement of $1 million. The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation grant brings the total match to date to $790,000.
“We are grateful to The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation for this generous gift,” said Buffalo State College Art Conservation Department Director Elizabeth S. Peña. “We are now within sight of the $1 million match, which will ensure that science remains a vital component of art conservation.”
The Buffalo State Art Conservation Program incorporates studio art, art history and scientific analysis. The program is one of only three comprehensive graduate programs in art conservation in the United States. The department’s six full-time teaching faculty members include nationally and internationally recognized conservators and conservation specialists in paintings, paper, objects or other specialties.
Graduates of the program are highly sought by leading museums across North America, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
