Buffalo State Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors
Six Buffalo State soccer players were recognized as all-conference performers by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), led by senior Matt Romano (Eden/Eden) and junior Richard Namulala (Kenmore/Kenmore West) being named to the First Team.
Romano anchored the Bengals' defense and finished his career with six goals and seven assists, totaling 19 career points. Namulala was the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and four assists, totaling for 24 points.
Sophomore Prisco Houndanon (Benin, West Africa) received Second Team recognition. Houndanon scored three goals with four assists and played in 17 of the 18 games this season. Sophomores Randy Haight (Roseville, CA/Woodcreek) and Shawn McDonell (West Seneca/West Seneca East) both earned Honorable Mention status. Haight, a midfielder, totaled 11 points, notching four goals and three assists. McDonell had a strong season in goal, as he recorded four shutouts and posted a 1.02 goals-against-average.
On the women's team, junior Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) was awarded with All-SUNYAC honors for the third-straight year, garnering Second Team status. She finished the season tied for the team lead with 27 points, with 10 goals and seven assists. Monaco tightened her grip on the top spot on the Bengals' career scoring list as she brought her totals to 55 goals and 125 points over three seasons.
The men's team assembled its finest season in 20 years as it posted an 11-5-2 overall record and made its first SUNYAC postseason appearance since 1998. The women's team finished up at 6-10-2 overall with a 3-7 mark in conference play.
