Buffalo State's Ackley, Bernal and Lyons Record Women's Lacrosse Milestones

BUFFALO, NY—Leah Bernal (Marilla/Iroquois) and Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) have joined elite company, becoming just the second and third Buffalo State women’s lacrosse players, respectively, to surpass the century mark in career points, while teammate Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) set a new school record for assists in a single season.

Bernal, a childhood education major, became the second Bengal in school history to reach 100-point milestone with a two-goal performance in an 8-5 win over Goucher on April 3 and currently holds the No. 2 spot with 104 points. Ackley, a health and wellness major, recorded two goals in a 17-8 victory over Potsdam on April 25 to secure her spot in the century club, bringing her point total to 101. Chelsey Frail, who played at Buffalo State from 2003-06, holds the scoring record with 127 points. Lyons, a social work major, notched three assists against Potsdam to set a school record for assists in a single season. The junior has 15 helpers on the year and surpassed Frail, who previously held the record with 14 set in 2003.

Buffalo State will look to remain in the playoff hunt when its hosts Brockport in a must-win game today at 4 p.m.
