Buffalo State legends Dr. Gail F. Maloney and Arlene Eagan are listed among the 126 coaches and 209 current and former student-athletes honored in a book published by the NCAA entitled, "NCAA Women's Basketball's Finest." In conjunction with the NCAA's 25th Anniversary celebration of women's athletics, this book was created to highlight the accomplishments of both players and coaches among all three divisions of NCAA women's basketball.
Maloney and Eagan are the only two representatives from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honored in the publication.

Listed amongst the likes of Pat Summitt, Vivian Stringer and Geno Auriemma, Maloney mentored the Bengals to a .708 winning percentage through 21 seasons and compiled a 374-154 win-loss record. A graduate of Cortland State, Maloney led the Bengals to eight SUNYAC Championships and nine appearances in the NCAA tournament. She retired from coaching following the 1999-2000 season, but still serves as the school’s senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator.

Eagan, a Division III First Team All-American in 1990 and 1991, rewrote the Buffalo State record books during her four year career from 1988-91. Eagan is the school’s all-time leading scored with 1,669 points, is the top-rebounder with 1,419, and holds the records for most steals (364) and blocked shots (158). As a junior, she led all of Division III in field goal percentage, shooting 64.8-percent. Eagan was inducted into the Buffalo State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
