Buffalo State men's hockey players Sean Burke (Barrie, ON/St. Peter's) and Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) were recognized today by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) for their outstanding play this past weekend.

Burke, a senior criminal justice major, was named the SUNYAC Player of the Week after recording eight points in a pair of road victories. He tallied three goals and two assists in a 7-0 win over Geneseo, the 10th-ranked team in the nation, on Friday, and added two goals and an assist in a 4-3 win over Brockport on Saturday. Burke leads the team with 22 goals and 32 points and is just one goal shy of equaling a school record for goals in a season.

Sheehan, a junior criminal justice major, was named the SUNYAC Goalie of the Week after making 73 saves in a two games. He set a new school record with his second shutout of the season, stopping 43 shots to blank Geneseo on Friday. The next night, he made 30 saves in a 4-3 overtime win at Brockport. Sheehan has also set the school record for wins in a season with 10, and currently has a 3.78 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.

Buffalo State has clinched just its season conference playoff berth in school history and first since 2002. The Bengals will close out their regular season at home this Friday and Saturday against Plattsburgh and Potsdam respectively.
