Free on the morning of September 19? Buffalo State needs your gardening, painting, clothes-sorting, and other skills for its annual Bengals Dare to Care Day open to all students, faculty, and staff. The Volunteer and Service-Learning Center is coordinating the service day that focuses on hands-on projects in conjunction with several community organizations.
Projects include sorting donations at a city homeless shelter, creating sculptures out of recycled tires, and assisting in community gardens. All tools and work gloves will be provided.
Buffalo State President Katherine Conway-Turner is planning to participate, and she encourages the campus community to join her.
“Dare to Care provides an excellent opportunity for members of our Buffalo State family not only to connect with our community partners through hands-on volunteer work, but also to become better acquainted with our neighbors and one another,” Conway-Turner said. “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work alongside our students, faculty, and staff whom I may otherwise not have the chance to meet.”
The day starts at 9:15 a.m. in the Sports Arena when volunteers will sign up for projects. Buses will then transport volunteers to the various locations — from the Black Rock Heritage Center to the American Red Cross — where they will work on services projects until 1:00 p.m. Buses will then return volunteers to campus for a complimentary lunch.
To participate, please register online or call (716) 878-5811, text (716) 427-3060, or visit the VSLC office in Cleveland Hall 306.
