Chemistry-Physics Lecture Series Continues
The fall 2010 Chemistry/Physics Lecture Series continues Thursday, October 14, with a presentation by Joon-Seo Park, assistant professor of chemistry at Eastern University.
Park is an organic chemist who employs organic synthesis to study interfacial phenomena with nanoscale materials. His talk is “Amplification of Biomolecular Interactions Using Thermotropic Liquid Crystals.”
This lecture, like all the lectures in the series, will be held in Science Building 220. Each lecture begins at 12:30 p.m., following refreshments at 12:15 p.m.
On November 4, Chulhong Kim, assistant professor from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Buffalo, will present “Photoacoustic Transduction From Light To Sound: High Resolution Optical Imaging.” His research interests include the development of non-ionizing and non-invasive novel biomedical imaging techniques such as ultrasound-modulated optical tomography, fluorescence imaging, laser speckle contrast imaging, and ultrasonic imaging.
On Thursday, November 18, Corina Rogge, the Andrew W. Mellon assistant professor in Conservation Science from Buffalo State’s Art Conservation Department, will present, “I walk the line (between art and science).”
The final presentation for the semester takes place on Thursday, December 2. The speaker is David G. Hangauer, associate professor of chemistry at UB, who will present “The rational design of protein kinase inhibitors.”
The series began on September 30 with a presentation by Prasad Purohit, research assistant professor from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at UB, who discussed “Engineering Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors to Understand Their Function at the Junction.”
