The Children's Hour Opens November 10

Casting Hall Productions' presentation of The Children’s Hour, a poignant drama about injustice and intolerance, opens Wednesday, November 10, at Donald Savage Theater and Communication Building’s Flexible Theatre.

The story details how a wrongful accusation of a same-sex relationship affects two female teachers at an all-girls school. Lillian Hellman’s 1934 play sent shockwaves through the theater community when it debuted.

In a time when cyber bullying and harassment over sexual orientation dominates news headlines, the play’s continued relevance speaks for itself.

“Issues that we mistakenly may have thought were no longer issues at all are still with us,” writes director Donn Youngstrom, associate professor of theater, in his productions notes. “We cannot ignore nor take for granted that it will get better unless we as a community stand up and say that this will not to be tolerated.”

The production features Buffalo State students (pictured left to right): Raquel DeSouza in the role of Mary, Cecelia Barron as Peggy, and Samantha Zimnock as Evelyn.

Performances take place November 10–13 and November 17–20 at 8:00 p.m. Matinee performances will be held November 13 and 20 at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 faculty/staff/seniors, $6 students. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (716)-878-3005, visit www.buffalostate.edu/theater, or stop by the Rockwell Hall Box Office.
