Christopher Newport Slips Past Women's Lacrosse in Triple Overtime, 12-11; Ackley Ties School Record for Career Goals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Buffalo State (1-2) came from behind three times against host Christopher Newport (4-2) but lost in triple overtime, 12-11, in a non-conference game today at Captains Field.

Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) led Buffalo State with four goals, while Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) netted three and an assist. Joni Squire-Hill (Ohsweken, ON/Hagerville) scored twice and Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) and Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) each tallied one goal. Ackley's three goals brings her career count to 91, tying a school record. She is currently second among all-time scoring leaders with 119 points, just eight shy of Chelsey Frail's 127 points.

Buffalo State was down 4-3 at the break, but outscored Christopher Newport 6-5 in the second half to force overtime. The Bengals registered one goal in each of the first two extra periods before the Captains notched two unanswered goals, including one with just 27 seconds remaining to send it to a third overtime and recorded the game winner in the second minute of play.

Buffalo State will next play at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
