Buffalo State's softball team won its first game of the season defeating Middlebury, 9-7, in Fort Myers, Florida securing Head Coach Sandra Hollander's 300th career victory.



In her 14th season, Hollander is ranked 24th among active Division III coaches with 300 career wins, compared to just 187 losses and two ties and a .616 winning-percentage. The Kenmore native's career accomplishments include guiding the Bengals to seven NCAA playoff appearances, two SUNYAC Championships (1996 and 2000), nine 20-win seasons, one thirty-win season, and two New York State Championships (1992 and 1993). She earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors twice and was named Regional Coach of the Year by the Softball Coaches Association once.



Under her guidance, Buffalo State has been extremely well represented when it comes to individual post-season honors. Hollander has coached five All-Americans, nearly 30 All-Region performers, over 20 players who earned All-State honors and more than 50 players who have gained All-SUNYAC recognition. Among more than 15 players garnering All-ECAC status were three who were also named ECAC Player of the Year.



Her 2002 Bengals boast a young roster for the second-consecutive season as the team has no seniors and just three juniors. The upside, however, is that nine of the team's returnees saw significant playing time last season, and four newcomers join the mix to vie for playing time.
