Anthony Bruno has earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering technology, attaining a 3.88 GPA while completing prestigious internships, volunteering in the community, and competing as a member of Buffalo State’s swimming and diving team.

Bruno will receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence during the 10:00 a.m. baccalaureate ceremony at Buffalo State’s 142nd Commencement, Saturday, May 17, in the Sports Arena.

Undaunted by difficult and demanding course material, Bruno contributed to the forward movement of his classes by offering timely and productive questions and well-considered solutions. He is a creative and industrious thinker who excels in both the analytical and technical components of his coursework.

Bruno is eager to share his work. He presented his senior design project to the Buffalo chapter of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) in fall 2013 and at Buffalo State’s Student Research and Creativity Celebration in spring 2014. In 2012, he took fourth place in Buffalo State’s highly competitive Information Processors Association Programming Contest, in which contestants write code based on problem statements.

Bruno provided leadership as president of Buffalo State’s chapter of the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Mini Baja Series. He also served as president of Buffalo State’s ASME chapter and led an effort to host a Buffalo chapter meeting on campus for the first time in six years.

As an intercollegiate swimmer, Bruno earned SUNY All-Academic Team status in 2011 and 2012 and was named a Buffalo State Scholar-Athlete in 2011–2012.

Away from campus, he is active in the community as a Special Olympics fundraising volunteer and a Ride for Roswell event staff volunteer. A highly motivated and dedicated individual, Bruno has emerged as a true leader in his field during his time at Buffalo State.
