Commencement Profile: Devan V. Brady

Devan Brady has earned a bachelor of arts degree in media production and public communication, attaining a 3.95 GPA while combining academic achievement with a commitment to community service and a proclivity for research.

Brady will receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence during the 2:00 p.m. baccalaureate ceremony at Buffalo State’s 144th Commencement, Saturday, May 14, in the Sports Arena.            

Brady is an ideal student, equally adept at working independently and collaboratively. Her diverse interests, critical thinking skills, and dedication to excellence enriched the academic experience of all those around her as she sought a robust and challenging education. With top-notch writing abilities, communication skills, business acumen, and social media expertise, she built an exemplary undergraduate career.

After traveling to Israel, France, Italy, and Switzerland, Brady created a video and authored primary research on the benefits of studying abroad. She presented her findings at the 2015 Student Research and Creativity Celebration to encourage others to pursue academic travel. In addition, she served as the line producer overseeing the daily organization of the filming of Cappuccino Jones, a full-scale television pilot produced by Buffalo State television and film arts students.

Brady is a natural leader who served as president of the student board of the college’s Muriel A. Howard Honors Program and as a student member of the Buffalo State College Foundation board of directors, helping raise more than $400,000 annually for scholarships. She also served as president of the college’s chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association.

A tireless volunteer, Brady has devoted time in the community to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Depew High School musicals, the New York Special Olympics Polar Plunge, the Wheels with Wings Foundation, and the Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped.
