On June 14, the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College presents Born in Buffalo: Great Songwriters from the Queen City, a special afternoon concert celebrating Buffalo-born songwriters. 

The event begins with remarks by Chuck Mancuso, professor of music at Buffalo State, followed by the concert.  Featured writers and songs, include Harold Arlen’s “Stormy Weather,” “Over the Rainbow” and “Paper Moon;”  Ray Henderson’s “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue” and “Bye Bye Blackbird;” Ray Goetz’s “So, This is Love” and “I’m Simply Crazy Over You.”  

The performers will be two former Buffalo natives, Erma Mellinger, mezzo-soprano, and Daniel Weiser, pianist.  Both now teach at Dartmouth College, located in Hanover, N.H., where they regularly perform in the New Hampshire/Vermont region. The program is also a tribute to Weiser's parents, Helen and Milton Weiser, long-time Buffalo arts supporters who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary on this date.  Dr. Milton Weiser is the former head of gastroenterology at the University at Buffalo Medical School and Buffalo General Hospital.  Helen Weiser is a long-time docent at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
