Conway-Turner to Present Keynote at UPOPM Awards

Buffalo State President Katherine S. Conway-Turner will deliver the keynote address at the eighth annual Unlimited Possibilities Overcoming Poverty Ministry Inc. (UPOPM) awards dinner Saturday, February 28, at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

Conway-Turner is also one of 62 women from throughout Western New York that will be presented with a “Touching the World Award” by UPOPM. The awards recognize recipients for their achievements in community service, professionalism, and leadership.

Three Buffalo State faculty and staff members are also among the honorees, including Carmela Thompson, director of admissions; Theresa Harris-Tigg, assistant professor of English; and Carmen McCallum, assistant professor of higher education administration. Additionally, eight Buffalo State alumni will be honored, including Stacey Lewis, ’01; Phyllis Slaughter, ’81, ’95; Geraldine Velez-Lopez, ’87, ’93; Deborah Watkins, ’85; Linda Williams, ’06; Sharon Wilson, ’93; Christine Wingo, ’06; and Deidre Wright, ’10. 

Denee Tidwell and Harmony Lemon, both of the incoming class of 2019, will be presented with $1,000 scholarships at the event.
