Cortland Hands Women’s Lacrosse First SUNYAC Loss
POTSDAM, NY—Buffalo State (6-3/4-1) suffered its first SUNYAC loss of the season and had its five-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of first-place Cortland (9-5/5-0), 14-7, today at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.
Katie Lyons (Williamsville/ Williamsville North) and Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/ Henninger) each scored twice to lead the Bengals. Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/ CW Baker), Katie Henderson (Hamburg/ Frontier) and Joni Squire-Hill (Ohsweken, ON/ Hagerville) had one goal apiece, and Stephanie Georgopoulos (Pt. Jefferson Station/ Comsewogue) chipped in a pair of assists.
Cortland jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game, and never let the Bengals pull even. The Red Dragons led 8-4 at the intermission, and scored the first goal of the second half to add some insurance. Cortland outshot Buffalo State, 35-19. Ashley O’Brien (Lima/ Honeoye Falls-Lima) made nine saves for the Bengals
Buffalo State next host Morrisville on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Towers Field.
