The Kenan Center in Lockport will showcase the work of 12 Buffalo State design students at this year’s 100 American Craftsmen event, June 3–5. This is the second year that the center has presented an exhibit of student work as part of its new Annex Marketplace, located within the Kenan Center Arena complex where the annual craft show is held.
Students to be featured are Adam Ianni, Shawn Mergler, and Noah Giusiana (wood/furniture design); Katie Mallaber, Andre Pawarski, Christina Riccio, and Samantha Schnell (ceramics); Mehnert Canaan, Lucas Colon, and Emily Ziegler (fibers); and Solana Anstett, Sabrina Wolf, and Emily Ziegler (metals/jewelry).
Coordinating the exhibit is Colleen Toledano, assistant professor of ceramics. Toledano coordinated the first exhibit of work in 2015 which the Kenan Center deemed a great success. Elaine Harrigan, Kenan Center marketing communications manager, reports that both patrons and artisans in the show were delighted to see student work exhibited.
“Being the presenters of this prestigious event, which is devoted exclusively to craft art, we felt it was part of our responsibility to support the creative development of future craft artisans," said Harrigan. "Over the past 46 years, many Buffalo State faculty members have exhibited their own work at the event and also served as jurors, so we have a long-standing relationship with the college. We’re proud that we can introduce young artisans to thousands of visitors who attend 100 American Craftsmen.”
Hours for the event are Friday, June 3, 6:00–9:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 4, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; and Sunday, June 5, 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Admission is $6; students with ID are admitted for half price. 100 American Craftsmen takes place at the Kenan Center Arena, 195 Beattie Avenue, Lockport, New York.
