Edwards, Hicks Earn All-America Honors; Barfield Ninth at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
ADA, OH—Latoya D. Edwards (Brooklyn/ Clara Barton) and Mario Hicks (Corning/ Corning West) captured All-America honors today at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Northern University, and Lavonne Barfield (Rochester/ Wilson Magnet) missed the distinction by just one place, claiming ninth.
Edwards, a sophomore majoring in health and wellness, became just the second-ever Buffalo State female to capture All-America status in track and field, placing third in the 55-meter dash in a school record time of 7.12 seconds. Jenelle Orosz became the first female Bengal All-American last year, placing sixth in the high jump.
Hicks, a senior English major, was a repeat All-American in the 55-meter hurdles, placing fifth in 7.60 seconds. Hicks was second in the event a year ago.
Barfield, a junior communication major, finished just one spot shy of the All-America cut-off, placing ninth in the long jump. She traveled 5.41 meters (17’ 9”) on her best jump of the competition, just 1
