Elmira Edges Women's Hockey in ECAC West Quarterfinals
ELMIRA, NY—Buffalo State (7-12-3) made a valiant run in its first ECAC West playoff appearance in five years, but fell to host Elmira (19-5-3), ranked No. 8 in the nation, 3-2, in a quarterfinal game today, ending the Bengals’ season.
Abbey Hubble (Herndon, VA) opened the scoring for the Bengals with an assist from Kelsey Truran (Berkley, MI) 4:49 into the second period. Elmira netted a pair of goals of its own later in the second period to take the lead. The Soaring Eagles added an empty-netter with just 26 seconds remaining, before Buffalo State closed the scoring with nine seconds to play, with an unassisted goal by Jessica Thieme (Roselle, IL).
Elmira outshot Buffalo State 35-17. Shannon Anesetti (Canonsburg, PA) allowed just two goals and made 32 saves in her final game as a Bengal.
