English Professor Updates Popular Book on Tutoring Writing

Thomas J. Reigstad, professor of English at Buffalo State College, has co-authored an expanded and updated version on his popular book on tutoring writing.

"Tutoring Writing: A Practical Guide for Conferences," by Reigstad and Donald A. McAndrew, professor of composition and English education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, provides a wide-ranging and thorough review of theory and research into the principles and practices of tutoring writing. Their original monograph, "Training Tutors for Writing Conferences," was awarded "Best Publication" by the National Writing Centers Association.

Designed to appeal to anyone who uses writing as a tool for learning, especially in tutor-training courses, undergraduate and graduate-level writing courses and teacher-assistant preparation courses, "Tutoring Writing" includes:


  • advice on how to tutor writers in specific settings;

  • practical guidelines for tutoring writers in various stages of their compositions, including pre-draft;
